It's the width.
I talked to Kevin (Rotary Resurrection) and Speedsource about it.... turns out when they widen the groove; it has a tendency to break off the shoulder of the rotor. But you don't know that until AFTER the motor is re-assembled.
If memory serves, Kevin said he loses 1 out of 4 8 rotors milled out... that is too high of odds for me.
