Hello to Everyone :-)
Hello fellow RCC Members :-) I would like to introduce myself. My name is Phil :-) I live in Laveen Arizona and recently moved here from Northern California almost 2 yrs ago. I work in the field of Aerospace and Defense quite a demanding job! :-) but I still find time to tinker with my RX8.
I'm very interested in learning more about my 06 RX8 rotary engine. I have a bad habit of babying my cars and I've been told by the Dealer not to baby this one too much. I rarely get the RPM's up to 5000. 6 speed auto. I look forward to meeting fellow Club Members! Phil:) |
Welcome to the club, Phil! I would say you are getting good advice on the care and feeding of a rotary - You really need to wind them up to keep them healthy. I had a 1988 RX-7 w/automatic for 12 years, took it to redline regularly and never had a problem. I am now treating my '07 RX-8 to the same healthy exercise. Also, one of the longest lived third gen cars I have ever come across was owned by a fellow who took the thing to track events on a regular basis and flogged the bejeesus out of it. On the other hand, I have heard numerous accounts from rotary mechanics over the years of cars that had been "babied" and died prematurely. So it seems, when driving a rotary, the best thing to do is let 'er eat all she wants.
