My 1988 TII: Project Elara
Project Elara: 1988 Mazda RX7 Turbo II
These are the chronicles of the perilous adventures of Myself and My hetero-machine-life-mate, Elara. They will tell about her origins, her ascension to greatness, her downfall from grace, her re-emergence into the publics eye, and best of all, her recipe for the perfect omelet!! I got the car for $2,100. It was fairly stock with just a rebuilt and street ported motor and a 2.5" custom single exit exhaust. It had full emissions removal and lots of weight reduction(IE, lots of shit was missing, haha). I installed the following shortly afterwards: D2 Coilovers 3" Motoria/Corksport turbo back exhaust Carbon fiber hood RS Racing Dual Pass badass giant radiator Custom Steel braided/AN oil cooler lines Turbonetics Raptor BOV 3" turbo inlet duct Greddy boost gauge GP Sports body kit Quick release steering wheel Nismo shift knob S5 seats S5 interior pieces to replace missing or broken pieces HID's !!!!!!!!!!!!!DRIFT BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is a list of what's going on it now: T04E turbo Boost controller Blitz front mount intercooler Two 890cc Injectors Two 1000cc Injectors Tomei Fuel Pressure Regulator ARC Blow off valve Walbro Fuel Pump Rtek 2.1 ECU AEM Wideband UEGO Taurus E-fan Megan Racing water temp gauge 5one5 idiot cluster triple gauge pod MX5 Miata shift knob S5 alternator with dual pulley I've also started sanding and prepping the car for paint. I know there's other stuff I'm forgetting and I'll probably remember later and post up. Feel free to comment or ask questions. Here's a picture of it from a week ago.(NOTE this is not me standing in front of the car lolololol, it's a friend of mine posing for the flag that's sitting in my antenna hole). http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...70636b6d7a.jpg Here I took off a bunch of crap to get ready to install some more crap, haha. http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...acd745b08d.jpg Here is a picture with everything still as it was when I drove it to my work to start all this. http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...1e451e4b89.jpg My new, super JDM tight cold air intake, DAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWG! I know, you're probably wondering where the filter is :O. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...8b52028a8a.jpg Here it is! Except I've bought a new AEM dry flow filter to replace this nasty K&N piece of shit that's on there that I stole from work, haahha. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...ce66f28fda.jpg Before I started sanding it down. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...44350d7ec6.jpg About to go buy some newspaper so I can cover the windows. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...b1ae28ec7a.jpg I'm not sure if I'm going to paint my CF hood or not. It only needs a little wax to shine. We'll see how much paint is left at the end. Here's just a few pictures of it before when it had the body kit on. It will again, I just took it off for the paint. http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...5455bf75c5.jpg Here it's missing the rear because I hadn't ordered it at the time. I'm not even sure if I have a picture of it with the rear on, hahah. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...520a27811a.jpg |
Also, I took the wing off and will not be putting it back on. So if anyone wants to buy a black, un-cracked S4 TII wing, let me know :).
looks like a good project minus the rtek...
The Rtek was affordable and used so I went with it for the time being. When I'm ready to upgrade to a T4 turbo I will find a nice used E8 :P.
I like the radiator! ;)
nice, I just got my FC turbo II for 1900, and it has 110psi on both rotors! :D
What is the gatorade bottle for? Rad overflow?
its because rotaries crave electrolites.
Yes, that's the radiator overflow bottle. The cap from the stock bottle fits perfectly onto a gatorade bottle. I put some rtv on it and let it dry. Works great.

I installed the fuel pump today. I also just put my wideband and water temp gauge in as well. Wideband and temperature sensors are installed too, I just need to wire up the gauges tomorrow.
I also mocked up the e-fan. I need to go buy all the stuff tomorrow to wire it up. The Taurus E-fan's fit fucking perfectly on the K2DR/RS Racing radiators. It's exactly as wide as the core and just barely shorter than it, making mounting it cake. After the fan is installed I'm going to put in a black interior in the back(front coming later when I get a chance) so I can mount up the battery box and rear CP Racing strut bar without having to worry about cutting up carpet to make it fit over these things. Pics later when I get home and upload them. |
Here's the fan mounted up.
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...0ed1a5201e.jpg The turbo installed http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...d28f331857.jpg Wideband and water temp gauge mocked up to be mounted. http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...a1b18b8d13.jpg A little 91 and a few ounces of two stroke oil and you get green gas. =) http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...5c7803d900.jpg Got almost everything put back together and reconnected. Still have a few things to wire up, but other than that, it's almost ready to start up. http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...68b975c22e.jpg |
I've got the top mount on there for now while I'm still fabricating the front mount.
How's it run so far?
