The new DD
As you may or may not have heard we recently lost our good old DD...230K miles and it died while getting on the freeway in third gear. I still haven't had a chance to figure out what happened but compression showed 0 on the front rotor.
We needed a DD asap and I began looking for a replacement. My requirements were: seats 4 and handles decently. Not too many cars fell in the latter category since most were FWD. I was looking for a new car or a newer used car but nothing seemed like a good buy. Thanks to those on this forum that steered me the right way. Friends with kids said no sports cars you have your turbo, while rotary friends were telling me 8 or the highway. When it all came down to it it was either an 04/05 RX8 or BMW 318IS. I was about to get an 8 at a great deal and on the 2nd day of searching this car popped up. Test drove it, checked it out and decided that this car fit the criteria and looked nice. I present the new DD: 1994 aka E36 BMW 318is M44 (4-cyl) 140hp boing boing boing: http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...3&d=1243062700 Clean Black Interior, very comfy. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...4&d=1243062818 On Bav Auto Springs and 5 series lip spoiler: http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...5&d=1243062926 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...7&d=1243063271 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...8&d=1243063384 After a month I can't hate it. Makes me work more on my TII though. Handles well, looks nice, doesn't smell like exhaust, kidneys don't hurt on CA roads, 40mpg cruising at 80, and BMW let me IN when I try to change lanes!!!! Needs AC recharge and a catback. Can't say much more about it than that. Oh yeah, and I swore I'd never own a boinger.....well, dunno what to tell you...my bad.:leaving: |
Nice! Congrats on the new car!
|
thanks, I'll keep this thread in case anything gets modified...i don't see too much $ going into this car though.
|
You gonna fix yore DD?
|
not for at least another month and that's IF the spare motor still has good compression....if not then I'll part it out. Take what I want for the TII and get rid of the rest then give the shell to my friend peter. Trying to get the TII finished first.

i like them....don't feel heavy, power is nice in the 6cyl, interior is comfy and bigger than the FC for sure.
Had it a couple of days, so far so good. |
Alot more torque than that 318 huh?
I love straight six's. That is why I refuse to get rid of my Grand Cherokee. I love that 4.0 |
lol, the 318 sucked...Brooke's car is faster than that thing. It is funny to compare the 2 but that's the first impression from having it two days. Definitely better with 2 extra chambers but I think the NA would still give it a run for it's money.
Trying to sell the 318 to a mechanic AND swap the wheels, wing and a few other pieces instead of giving it to the insurance company and not be allowed to remove anything. Feels good but I definitely still miss the 7s. |
