Opinion Needed: Coolant Tank Filler Neck Broken?

Hi Guys,

This is a picture of the coolant tank reservoir filler neck. Does it look like to you that the actual neck itself is cracked or just the rubber surrounding it? Looks like the actual neck is broken to me but just thought I would ask.

It looks like the filler neck is cracked too. Even if it's not...its in bad shape, and I would replace it. You should be able to get one in good condition for about $15 on the forums.

actually i was paranoid so i got a new one from ray at malloy sitting in my garage already lol. more than 15 bucks though but...well, i like replacing parts with new ones.

thanks for your input.

you mean that isn't a feature to prevent over filling?

im going to take a look at the tank i got yesterday but i might as well ask.

is the filler neck a separate part of the tank itself or is the entire thing, all one piece? did i buy more than I needed? now that i think of it, why would they put that rubber piece there if it was all one piece....dammit.

i have the overflow and washer fluid tanks from both sides sitting in the garage at the house, i can look at them again when i get home and see if they are two pieces.

thanks i would appreciate that tray.

edit: actually scratch that. no need to for you to look tray. It may be better for me to just actually replace the entire thing and start fresh after a coolant flush anyway.

Yes they're two pieces, and usually both pieces have cracks or missing sections where they join.......so *usually* need to replace both anyway :)

i looked at that pic, it doesnt look bad at all. that black part that is worn is just foam that was put around the base of the filler tube and i honestly dont know why but if its not presently dripping or leaking its fine, the tank will out last most of the car but the clear PVC filler neck does get get more brittle with time but again if its not leaking your fine.

Test it by clamping the return hoses and filling it up into the neck.
