My first gen with FD wheels
2 Attachment(s)
Recently I installed a Ford 8.8 that is fully built with custom adjustable 4 link/panhard bars. I also have the respeed front T2 hub and brake adapter kit. It has been lots of customizing making it work in the front. First I had a 2" adapter on the front and had some bolt on flares. The front looked okay with the flares with 225's, but I didn't like the way the rear looked with flares. So I ordered some 195/50/16 tires for the front and narrowed the wheels 1.5". I eliminated the 2" adapter and the wheel and tire fits nicely under unmodified OE fenders... Once the car gets painted, it will look a lot better.

details of the rear end are:
Locker 4.88 gear and pinion Strange axles C clip eliminators Mosier reinforced cover shortened tubes Built carrier Drum brakes I don't know if the 4.88's are going to be okay so its really a toss up. |
Not real crazy about the front muffler being located below the driveshaft, but I understand that there is limited room under the car.
The rest of it looks great. Is that a TII trans I see? The Ford 8.8 can be a very stout unit, when built correctly. Should handle about any amount of HP you can throw at it. |
there are 2 mufflers on it. I just don't like loud cars. It is a T2 trans with a 1g tail housing and shifter assembly.
|
Yeah, I saw the second muffler, which was why I refered to it as the front muffler.
Rotaries can be rather loud, and the 1st gen doesn't have a lot of room for sound deadening devices. You prolly wouldn't like my FB, it's rather loud. I'll get around to adding another muffler one of these days, if I don't go deaf in the meantime...... I wasn't aware a 1st gen tailshaft housing would fit on a TII trans. I always heard people mod the shifter on the TII trans, so it will fit in the stock location. |
whats wrong with a muffler below the drive shaft?
13b's really don't sound good at all to me. The 2 liter engines sound wicked. I would put just one muffler on a 3 rtr engine. |
Line lock was completed today and also the 2 step was also finished up. I have a wheel to do tomorrow and align the car and I am ready for sunday in Montgomery.

Bryan,
Car is looking great! I saw you and your family at Cracker Barrel last night as I was leaving. :D |

Mufflers aren't too pricey, but driveshafts can be..... For on-road use, the location isn't nearly as bad, aside from hanging low. That is the reason I haven't added the presilencer to my car. I know it would reduce the sound output, but it will also hang lower than I really like. |
