would any one want??

metal head light lids????
The plastic ones are getting old enough that they are braking apart so here is the idea I have in my head..

These would be all stock looking to start with & after a wile I can add in a air duct in the top of the lid for more air into the engine bay..

Post up on what you guys think on this idea..

Price tag TBO @ a later date..

I would probably like one when mine breaks. Really it depends on how much and what material - weight still matters.

Yeah, i think that would be a great idea due to the fact that i have became one of the victims of the plastic head light covers.....

But i will not surrender to a stupid high price. That is the only catch that would stop me from getting them.

Herblenny 05-22-2009 07:18 PM

Hmm.. I do like the idea.. at material would these be made out of?? Steel or Aluminum?

I've never had issues with my OEM covers. Decent used ones are still available. AFAIK so are new ones. So I would buy them only if...
A. They aren't rediculously expensive...at least close in price to MAZDA new. Given the low volumn, that might be tough.
AND
B. There was some tasteful but effective way to vent them. Hard to imagine, and it might be self-contradictory but there you go.

I might be interested in some. I'm planning on making a set of headlights similar to R Magic by cutting the headlight covers into that shape and using the whole headlight as a air inlet as well, and since I've already lost a headlight cover before, I'm pretty sure the way it will be shaped will make it even more vulnerable to flying off. So having a metal one would hold up better I think.

If they fit well, I'd direct all the customers I have with broken covers to atkins. But for me thats the biggest issue. Some guys pay huge dollars for a POS vented cover that fits like ass. Price won't matter to me, but if they don't fit worth a crap I will never buy or recommend them.

I've only had one FD I painted taht didn't need at least one headlight cover due to the little "brackets" tearing off the lid.

What about the possibility of a FG cover with steel or aluminum mounting points/reinforcements, Dan? That could keep your costs lower and still allow for a product more resistant to the breakage most of us have seen from our factory covers.

Atkins Dan 05-25-2009 09:19 AM

ok there is some interest on these.. I will order up some new lids and see what I need to do to make this happen..

blwnrtr93 : sorry but I have to ask what is FG mean????

I think that means Fiber Glass.

Atkins Dan 05-25-2009 11:31 PM

thanks that makes sense to me I was just thinking it was a meaning for something else..

Can you also make some with Vents like the FEED headlight covers?

albertomg 05-27-2009 09:15 PM

Seems like a cool idea.
