New write-up on 2GDFIS please
 

So over on the evil forum the above mentioned write-up got out of hand something crazy like 85 post. Can some one who has done this mod post up instructions and pictures on doing this? Thanks

I'd have taken on the task of doing a writeup about 2GCDFIS except for the slight inconvenience of my having never actually hooked it up beyond the bench testing phase. I did do a write up about DLIDFIS but it was for general purpose use not specific to any one model. I wrote it that way since I had never wired it up in a 1st gen but had in several old school rotaries with points.

I think you're going to have to invite someone from the EVIL forum over here to do the write up. Or just read all there is about 2GCDFIS and just go for it. One thing I've learned about basic wiring jobs like these is that it's good to have some basic wiring skills before starting. This should not be your first automotive wiring job... then again, 2GCDFIS is so easy that maybe it could be. DLIDFIS is the more intermediate level mod but it accomplishes pretty much the same thing as 2GCDFIS, but does it a little better because each spark plug gets its own coil and ignitor; nothing is shared other than the pickup signal (which doesn't affect performance on the high voltage side of the circuit).

Yea Im not to worried about the wiring part of it, I do pretty good there. And I understand the basics of our ignition system. I would do the DLIDFIS but I dont think I have all the parts laying around for it. I do have two sets of 2nd gen coils thats why I was going with that one. By the way I read your write up on the DLIDFIS very very nice!!

The biggest problem with this mod, is the fact that everyone wants to make it more difficult than it really is. Here's how I did mine:

Take your 2nd gen leading coil pack, and remove the coil. Mount the coil. Move the power and negative wires from the stock leading coil over to the corresponding posts on the new coil. Spark plug wires will run from the new dual coil straight to the leading spark plugs. That's it, you're done...

Umm, no. I believe there is an issue with doing it that way, but I don't have the technical knowledge to describe it. In order to use the 2nd gen ignitor, you need to use the "transistor trick", which is a unit that translates the signal between the two types of ignitors.

Spot on as always Kentetsu, I did mine and it is easy, car ran smoother, gained several mpg and I felt good about the mod I did....:driving:

I hope that someday we will have the bugs worked out on the "transistor trick". Because once you add that to the equation, then you're really talking some power. It is truly amazing how much power there is to be had through ignition mods on these cars!

Well it works and my turbo 12a sure does love the crap out of it. If ya don't believe me that it works than do it yourself. The transistor trick was to up the output and stop the j109's from frying out. I can't remember the exact issue it causes without the transistor.
Also with the transistor inline it retards leading timing buy ten degrees so ya gotta reset that as well!

can this be done with the two trailing coils of a 2nd gen?
