If it's an 89 it shouldn't have those tail lights.

Nice car though, welcome to the board

S5 tails missing from an S5 is a common occurance due to 20+ years of ownership.

josh18_2k 02-14-2009 05:27 PM

S5 bumpers/trim too? chances are its an 88 (first year of black)

and advice- if youre serious about wanting to drift, buy a 240. rx7's take a lot more parts, practice, and skill to drift well.
7's make much better 'grip' cars. either way, have fun. i'm on my 4th chassis :)

Welcome to RCC!!!

Whizbang 02-14-2009 08:09 PM

whats the 10th vin digit? J or K?

Rotarydave 02-14-2009 10:10 PM

Welcome,

the car does have the right bumpers and trim to be a S5, but as others have said it does have the wrong taillights, it also has the wrong rims as well, i can't tell but it also looks to have a set of 86-88 GXL seats as well, it does have the right mirrors and of course the right wing, what does all this mean, honestly not a dang thing so many of these cars have been changed and modified and mazda doesn't have records to tell you what vin number came with what trim status as long as you are happy with it great enjoy and again welcome

89Rotary 02-15-2009 01:37 AM

lol, according to the Title Year is a 1989 Mazda RX7 with 0 Cylnders lol.

It has S4 Tails, and Rims are NOT original lol. the Seats are probably not original (due to being Slightly blue)

Drifting is a New love for me, i love the Feel of being able to control somthing that looks completly uncontrolable. also do not know about Grip races in the Salt Lake Area (utah) but i'm movin to arizona in may to go to school. so i'm sure i can find Auto X and Grip races there.

Rotary#10 02-15-2009 01:45 AM

it would be a good idea to check out the vin and see what the car came with and also check out the drivers side sticker and see what month and year it was made.
LOL don't feel too bad i have those same rims on my daily driver... so enjoy the fc and and welcome to RRC !

89Rotary 02-15-2009 02:29 AM

i'll post up my vin tomorrow, and Check the Tag. I Bought it off a Drift Buddy of mine and he says its a 89 as well so i'm inclined to believe him. lol

josh18_2k 02-15-2009 04:16 AM

door panels are 88 also. he probably jsut forgot. or maybe theres some hardcore scandal going on.. :-/

Whizbang 02-15-2009 11:06 AM

just check that 10th vin digit. There is a breakdown in the FAQ for the entire thing too.

89Rotary 02-15-2009 09:30 PM

heres my Vin

JM1FC3317K0XXXXXX

Also Build Date on Door is 03/1989 So its an S5.

Rotary#10 02-16-2009 01:45 AM

still got your auto belts in it ?

FCRotary 02-16-2009 03:21 AM

I happen to love the s4 taillights, I love the look of them for some reason, however at night the s5's do have a cooler pattern.

It's a nice find, aside from all of the discrepancies.

I do say though, if you are going to drift it, be careful, you can land yourself into a wall rather easily with it... lol

They are fun cars for driving touge however. Good luck with it.
