Engine on a stand... How long?

Does anyone know if there is any kind of practical time limit as to how long a fully dressed engine can sit on a typical engine stand?

I figure that all of the weight is being supported by two or three studs on the front plate. Sooner of later the studs (or the front plate) may start to stress?

Any concens?

Doesn't seem that too many people have opinions on this, so I went looking on other forums...

I had mine on a stand for a couple of months and didnt have any problems at all. how long are you planning to leave it there for?

How long do you plan on keeping it on an engine stand? I wouldn't be concerned since it's attached to the front iron. If it really concerns you though, you could put some stronger studs in there.

I've had it on there for about two months. Problem is I travel a lot for work and could be away from home for months. Guess I could always lower it back to the floor.

that would the best thing to do... most stands will hold no problem...just it is never a good idea for anything that holds a lot of stress to be unattended for unknown periods of time. Being every stand has their own limit and if you can not check up on it on a semi-regular basis then for peace of mind lower it down.

i know this is old but ive had several motors sit on stands for long periods of time and mostly inline sixes so the length and sheer weight i thought would be bad but they held and still bolted straight up to the tranny without problems. well except that my cheap stand the bolt guides on it started to bend slightly but the motor was fine!!

I believe those studs are at least 10mm threads?
The tensile strength should be rated at least past 10,000 lbs.?
I wouldn't worry.

We've had short blocks on engine stands for YEARS with no problems.
