Dealership sponsored Event in VA!! Need 7s!

A few years back, I worked for Browns Mazda in Fairfax for a brief stent and during that time I became friends with many of the sales team/service teams/etc and I still drop in to see the new toys when they come out.

The owner of the Brown's chain of Mazda stores (Alexandria, Fairfax and soon Chantilly) is actually an FD owner himself.

I stopped in after DGRR '08 to share some pics with the guys and give them something to help stir up the "zoom-zoom" spirit and the owner was in at the time and really liked what he saw. He wanted to put a grand opening event together for his new Chantilly, VA store and wanted me to help get some of the rotary community together to "break it in".

Here are the details right now:

-SpeedSource Rolex RX8 team w/ their car will be onsite
-Mazda North America President will be onsite
-MazdaSpeed North America Representative will be onsite
-John Walker Racing out of PA (they run Star Mazda car's w/ the renesis) will be onsite and giving away a track day at their facility as a door prize

Those are the big ones, I'm a little loose on the details as it was only a 10 minute conversation today.

What I need though are 20 RX7 owners willing to show up and show off for the crowd. This will be a show where the visitors/spectators will pick "best in show" or "people's choice" and the winner gets a prize. The prize is yet to be announced, but I have been assured it's nothing to sneeze at.

It is on Oct 30th, which is a Thurs, from 2pm to 6pm.

I will firm up details but I want to see who would be interested and available that day first?

It'll be a GREAT time, I can assure you all - not everyday you get to meet some top class racers, Mazda execs and other local Mazda buffs!

I will be there

Sounds like a great idea. But just curious, why all 7's?

WE3RX7 09-18-2008 09:30 PM

I was a bit curious myself. The word "right now" is that they want to limit it to 20 cars and they prefer it be sevens, but I'm pretty sure we'll get 8s into the show as well since it's currently a car on their lineup and the flagship. I'm confirming on Saturday morning.

By all means though, we want ALL Mazdas to show up for the meet & greet and I apologize if that didn't come through in my first message. Any mazda, any year any model - show some zoom-zoom spirit, lol.

Dude, I would so rock that... But They wouldn't want my car :(

WE3RX7 09-21-2008 07:44 PM

Still bring the car even if you dont want to show it, we want ALL mazda enthusiasts to come out...

WE3RX7 09-21-2008 07:49 PM

The unofficial email so far of the details. More things will be hashed out this week.

"Brown’s Chantilly Mazda is the Largest Mazda Revolution Store in the Northeast Region- which you guys are a part of.

Some of those attending will be:

Jim Sullivan President of Mazda

Robert Davis of Mazdaspeed fame(among other things)

Rolex 24hour at Daytona winning Speed Source RX-8 Team with a car and Trailer

http://media.ford.com/NEWSROOM/relea...?release=27600

Rotary car contest: the focus is especially RX-7s prizes given by popular vote!

Barbecue- come hungry!

The whole affair is to be quite classy- I wanted a foam wresting pit and bikini contest but umm… oh well.

The tentative times are from 2pm until 6pm for the actual event and prize announcements. This could change but I will keep you posted."

I'll be putting some flyers together shortly for everybody to print off, etc. The powers at be are making decisions on the rest of the details this week so I'll let you all know as I know and I'll start taking entries (free) for the show, it'll have to be first come first serve...

where in virginia is chantilly at?

WE3RX7 09-22-2008 07:45 PM

Chantilly is in northern VA. About an hour south west of DC.

I got more details today and after the advertising meeting tomorrow i'll put something together for the "official" announcment. I'm going to organize a list of show participants as well. We have to limit it to 20 cars.

Just curious, why are you guys having the event on a Thursday? Most people work during the week. I would love to have my car there, but definitely won't be able to make a Thursday. Hmmm, maybe I'll have a friend bring my car out there.

WE3RX7 09-23-2008 08:25 PM

Its Thursday because we're working around Jim Sullivan (president of mazda na) and Rob Davey's schedules as well as the SpeedSource guys.

I got the details today. Look for an update later this week once I get everything typed up and organize a game plan.

Where are you in relation to Chantilly? I can probably arrange to get your car there...

vel525 09-24-2008 10:19 AM

I'm in Vienna/Fairfax. I travel for work so am out of town during the week. I don't really let other people drive my car so I'll have to see if I can figure something out. Will look for the update.

It should be pretty cool time. It being a Thursday sucks but I hope the rotary community in the area can still show its support.
