Hi all

I am new to this site. Found it trying to track down FlyRX7 for one of his gauge pods. I bought my FD a couple of months ago and I am so in love with it. Car is in nearly perfect shape. If only I could get it to pass emissions. Failed twice. Bringing it to Karl at AZRR to see what they can do.
My husband has a 2005 VR Supercharged RX-8. That is one nice car as well.
Looking foward to getting to know some of you.

Lynn

Welcome Lynn!!

Make sure your airpump is working at idle! it should be a easy pass if your airpump is working and your have a stock cat.

Easy way to tell if your airpump is working or not is to let the car idle and look at the pulley. At idle the clutch should kick in and you should see the whole assembly turn. If it doesn't check your wiring.

If your airpump doesn't work, you WILL not pass emission. I know because I've tried:) Even leaning it out, I couldn't pass..

Thanks for the welcome

About the air pump, we are going to put a relay in there so that it runs non-stop during the test. We are also switching from the stoneage purple box to the Power FC, so hopefully we can lean out the fuel a little better. We also have a newer Bonez highflow cat.
The engine has been modified, bridgeported, so we may just never pass. A waiver is our goal and next year is classic insurance.

Welcome to the site. That is a clean 3rd Gen. Emission is always an issue. Luckily here in Florida, that was taken out of our lives...The RX-8 is very nice too. What HP are you at with her?

Keep up the good work.

You have the Peter Intercooler and airbox!!!! So do I, It's been good one but it does have it's limits :)

I sold the purple monster a few years ago!

Amen to IL eliminating emissions for pre '96 vehicles!

Air Pump and make sure the CAT is HOT before you test. Drive the last block in 2nd gear at 4500RPM to get the CAT nice and toasty.

My husband has been doing his research on the intercooler since we are going with a big single turbo and he seems to think that it is more than capable to handle the load. We are keeping it rather than going with a V-mount. He could tell you all the mathematical calculations (he is an engineer) if you are interested.
Getting rid of the purple moster was the first thing we did. What a relic.

The RX-8 should be putting out a little over 300 rwhp once it has all the mods and tuning done. Since we got the 7, it may be a few more years before he has the time to work on the 8 again.

Never was able to get the FD to pass emissions. It is now registered in a non-emission county in AZ.
