PFS Purple Box: what do u guys think

And how is it controlling boost? Cause apparently it does. Would it be compatible with Manual BC?

Let's say for a car that have all the bolt-ons.

Oliv,

I wouldn't waste your money on that thing... First its piggy back. Second, its OLD. Third, it does not control boost. It suppose to have a different map to handle different Boost level.. But Most people 5-6 years ago used to call it "purple motor eater".

Being said that, there are always exception and there are very few people with some success.. But compare to Apexi PFC and how cheap PFCs are these days, I wouldn't consider putting one of those.. Now only that, PFC you could use as diagnostic tool as it will give you vital signs of the car where as purple box doesn't.

So, bottomline, I would spend more money and get PFC vs. Purple box.

I agree with Phil, if you are wanting to avoid tuning go with a Pettit Ecu, it is the best plug and play available to my knowledge. Still if you can tune or have someone local to you that can tune I would go with the PFC.

I had the purple and it would not "learn" on my very made early FD. To make it work required higher than normal TPS voltages. I sold it to someone who had PFS update the software. After that he said it worked OK. This was back around 1995.

Anyway you look at it, it is obsolete technology that does not work 100%.

Save your $ and get a plug and play PowerFC. The purple motor eater only works if you have PFS on your side. If not you'll have problems...

yep... purple motor eater is obsolete. Many other options available in 2008

Thank for the feedbacks guys, sorry I was out for vacations in Laos.

I decided not to go this.

I already have a Knightsport ECU on tuned for my mods but from another car. I plan to go to the dyno and figure out if I'm running OK/safe.

If yes I'll stay there, if not I'll invest in a power fc.
