Can someone Identify this Wiring? (pix)

Broke a belt today, the one from the alternator and water pump.

While I was fishing out all the strands and pieces, I found a three strand wire about a foot long? Guess it could have been taken out by the broken belt, or maybe it took out the belt.

You can see the "broken end" of the wire in the center of the pix. The other shows the three colors.

As always, any help would be appreciated.

Cut the outer cover back and tell us the colors .

Also, if it's not too much of a pain, trace it back to where it joins the harness. That will help identify it too if you know the stock harness well enough and can tell what group of wires it comes out of.

Yellow, Blue and Black wires.

Can't trace it back unless I get it off the ground. I'll see if I can get a pic underneath.

Some suggest that it's the Oil Metering Pump wiring? Thoughts?

thanks for the help

and your Trigger and CAS are both connected?

Yes.

Off the top of my head I'd say position sensor on the OMP. It's not CAS related.

ppritchard 09-25-2014 01:01 PM

So, where is that sensor located? I don't remember anything about a position sensor. If it is off-line, what is the result?

Thanks for any info.

speedjunkie 09-25-2014 03:29 PM

Yeah I'm thinking that goes to the OMP as well. Do you still have the OMP or did you delete it? Pull on the end of the harness that comes out of the OMP and see if the wires come out from where it runs behind the pulleys, because as far as that's hanging down, it looks like the harness from the OMP got cut completely and you'd need to get a different one or delete it. Or maybe there is a way to change the harness coming out of the OMP, I've never checked. My trigger wheel started eating into mine a couple years ago. I'd imagine the other end of the OMP harness is still connected because the connector only reaches about as far as the front hook for removing the engine.

Thanks.
Still have the OMP, really don't want to delete.

Pretty sure by now that the broken wire(s) are from the OMP.

I'm hoping that both ends are in tact and that I can just unplug them and get a replacement.

Since the wires are for sure not sending/getting any signals, what will the ECU do?

I can use premix until I find a replacement wiring, will that work?

Also, any idea on just where these plug into the harness?

thanks for the help.

The position sensor is built into the OMP. There is the stepper motor that controls the volume and then the position sensor that monitors the steppers position to make sure it's working.

If there is enough wire left on the OMP side, splice it back together and go on. If there isn't enough wire, I have an OMP with good harness I'll sell. Could probably also get you the terminals and seals to make a good patch to fix what you have.

The ECU should trip a MIL. The old S5s would go into limp mode and not allow more than x% throttle position. No idea what the S6+ will do. Guessing nothing since enough people just remove them. I wouldn't run it on premix until you either fix it or remove it. It's possible the fault mode is to run the pump wide open and dumping a bunch of premix on top of that wouldn't be the best scenario. It's not a touch fix. So do the right thing.

Ok, I've traced the wires and they are sheared off at the OMP (3 wire braid in pix).

I have a replacement OMP coming, so that's the ultimate fix.

But for Now, what impact do these 3 wires have on everything?
Obviously, the main plugs on the harness are still in tact, but these three wires are going nowhere. Just trying to figure out what the effect will be?

As always, thanks for any help,
Phil
