FS: 1983 RX-7 - Pristine 9k Miler

Year: 1983
Make: Mazda
Model: RX-7
Price: $7500
Mileage: 9352
Color: Blue
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (US State/Canada/Int): IL

For sale is an original and unrestored, like new condition 1983 RX-7 S with just 9,352 miles. I bought it last year via auction as a misguided gift idea and now I need to reclaim my garage space!

Additional photos available online at http://www.flickr.com/photos/5012844...7633325794618/.

SELECTED FEATURES:
-Absolutely stock, except for JVC aftermarket radio/CD-player.
-1.1L Wankel rotary engine.
-Five-speed manual transmission.
-Black cloth seats.
-Clean Carfax report.
-Thick folder of ownership records including extensive maintenance receipts, original bill of sale and window sticker.
-Factory shop manual included with sale, plus indoor cover.

GENERAL CONDITION:
-Starts right up, runs strongly.
-Exceptionally clean-looking, inside and out--consistent with its ultra-low mileage.
-Brakes well with excellent stopping distance.
-Shifts smoothly in all gears, handles beautifully--very entertaining car to drive!
-Exterior and interior condition are excellent, very nearly like new.
-Tires show plenty of tread and I can detect no dry rot, although they may be original (I couldn't locate dates of manufacture).

ITEMS ADDRESSED DURING MY OWNERSHIP:
-Seized left-rear wheel repaired (wheel had seized partially); replaced wheel cylinders on both sides.
-Repaired emergency brake (e-brake line had been severed, presumably as misguided attempt by someone to repair seized wheel).
-Adjusted brakes on all four wheels / bled system.
-Throttle cable reconnected (one link to carburetor had been disconnected).
-Motor oil changed / oil filter replaced.
-Portions of fuel lines replaced (where corrosion was apparent).
-Fuel filter replaced.
-New battery installed.

KNOWN ISSUES:
-Starter emits high pitched whining / grinding sound at times; may require rewind or replacement at some point.
-May need new right front wheel hub eventually (front suspension occasionally groans over rough pavement).
-A/C works but does not blow cold. NB: A/C system has NOT been converted to modern refrigerant.
-Power radio antenna is not functional. I have the original power antenna that I'll include in the sale, but its mast is damaged. The radio works well.
-Rear-window defrost switch light does not illuminate; could simply be failed light-bulb.

BRIEF HISTORY / WHY I'M SELLING:

The vehicle was owned by the same family since new, the only registered owners (confirmed by Carfax). The primary owner used the vehicle as a Sunday driver until she became physically unable to enjoy it any longer. I found this vehicle last year (2012) via the Bring-A-Trailer e-newsletter, where it had been listed by the original owner's son. Reading the story inspired me to buy the car as a 75th birthday present for my own mother, who had always wanted an RX-7. Unfortunately, upon presenting the car to her, my mother concluded she wouldn't be comfortable driving a stick at this point in her life!

I never titled this vehicle and have simply garaged it until I had time to re-sell it; it's been driven just ~50 miles on my watch.

THIS VEHICLE IS BEING SOLD AS-IS, WITH NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.

I have made my best efforts to present the vehicle openly and honestly, but I am not a mechanic. Buyers are encouraged to ask all questions (312-953-9401 or edwardnichols@yahoo.com). I am happy to facilitate pre-purchase inspections; car is located on the north-side of Chicago.

Thanks for looking!

I love that you bought the car for your own mother. Not too many people do that, or have the ability/opportunity to repay one of the most important people in our lives. Kudo's for being a great son :)

Thanks for the kind words!
