new guy, really old car
well today i pick up my first rotary ever! super excited about it :coolgleamA: its a 1985 rx7 gs pretty bummed that its not a gsl-se but im pretty happy.i only paid 700 buck for it too. i drove it about 30 miles back to my parents house, not allowed unregistered vehicles at my apartment. suspension was it great shape, transmission shifted good(automatic), overdrive works, no power steering tho(my first ever car without it), brakes worked good, tires are shot but overall its a nice clean sports car. the exhaust is the first thing thats gonna get replaced as its falling apart/ pieced together so im gonna go with mazda beat exhaust. if anyone has any tips on what i should do id appreciate it. i will be updating this thread as i do stuff to the car

Nice car, where you from, I have a couple of headers in my garage. One is a racingbeat the other is a pacesetter. I take it you have a GS model (I see no sunroof). Should also have rear drum brakes as well. Converting to limited slip is a nice cheap and easy upgrade.

first thing i would look into is converting it to manual, the automatic will quickly leave you feeling unappreciative of the feel that the car should have.

I assume "Mazda Beat" was just a typo, and you meant Racing Beat? :) - in which case you can't go wrong. tips? just remember the car's age and act accordingly. there will be times that maintenance and safety will have to take a priority over "more power", and that can be frustrating, but stay the course. they are fun cars, take care of it and enjoy. |
im from new york, yes i plan on getting new new rims/tires, i plan on doing a manual swap and limited slip swap. yeah i meant racing beat lol.
i currently own a 99 audi which i bought for 900 bucks so i know all about maintenance being more important then more power :banghead: if theres a thread someone could link me to about the swaps that would be great |
welcome to the forum, and enjoy the new digs!!! always nice to see a new level-headed guy with a rotary that's ready for the maintenance road that lay ahead.
