90deg AN to Metric fittings
 
So, I decided to try and use a 90 angle fitting in connecting this Mocal oil thermostat I have, but I'm a little worried about it having fitted it. The thing is, I've tightened both sides up, but the thing is extremely loose and has a lot of internal play that makes me worried about how well it can hold back oil pressure. Has anybody every used one of these fittings? I probably should have gone with metric to banjo fittings.

If it is not a tight fit then it will leak .Put the banjo fitting in the motor with a hose to the new part fitted with AN or JIC fittings .I would mount the part away from the motor so it will not pick up the motors heat .You should be able to find a way to modify the banjo fitting to attach a hose that will work with the AN or JIC fittings .

+1 for moving the thermostat. If the fitting doesn't leak now, the vibration and weight of the thermostat will break it. The hard 90 is killing flow as well.

We use banjo fittings on our oil cooler kit, but for cars with front mounts we recommend a forged 90 degree female/female fitting... It brings the thermostat back slightly for more clearance. We were also concerned with the weight of the thermostat and lines causing the fittings to come loose over time, so we made a mount/brace to hold the thermostat up and take the load off the fitting. You could consider doing something similar.
