TEAM SR FB Rx-7 Rebuild
This will be a RCC exclusive. I love what the site is about and how it holds true to it's roots!
First some history... The car was originally built in 2003 by my father and his best friend (coincidentally I am close friends with his son too). They ran SCCA IT7 in the Central FL region for a few years then funds dried up. Before parking the car in 2006 they rebuilt the engine and began break-in. After only about 2 hours of break-in they shelved the project.... Fast forward to 2011. I bought the car from him and am in the process of freshening it up. Paint, Electrical, Engine, and some Suspension. The plan is to keep the same basic color scheme but with Flat Black and Orange and without the funky orange on the nose of the car. Love you Dad but not sure what you were smoking... lol Some pics of the car when i first got it. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ngsvt/Rx-7.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...rxintheair.jpg The car had no brakes, no clutch and wouldn't fire. First thing I did was rebuild the carburetor. Before: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ngsvt/Carb.jpg After: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...gsvt/Carb1.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...gsvt/Carb2.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...gsvt/photo.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...svt/photo2.jpg I also bled the brakes which luckily was all it needed and replaced the hydraulic clutch parts with steel braided lines and oem pieces courtesy of MazdaTrix. Finally I got her to fire up, did a little dialing in and started to re-do the break-in. Unfortunately the car never quit spewing smoke, and oil ring chatter started to develop. So here we are today... rebuild time. |
April 10:
I pulled the engine and removed the oil pan to find this.... It's hylomar and something else... from the last rebuild. Oddly enough I had great oil pressure. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...dOilPickup.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q.../OilPanOld.jpg I also started to fit my new Ultra-lite II Gauges in to replace the Sunpro's http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...GaugePanel.jpg More tear down to come this evening.... |
Looking good man!

You single, since you can take your engine work with you indoor? :D Im living the lovely single life since getting the crazy ex out of the house, and taking carparts indoors when its cold outside is just lovely! :D |
LOL... nope.. married for 2.5 years and with her for 7. She happens to be a car nut herself...
Her car... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/ced10ed3.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/85486e00.jpg From a track event at Homestead. |

Thanks everyone for the replies. So my build may have taken a turn last night...
I found this on one of the housings. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/cc0f2a64.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/67747c3b.jpg It's the gouge in the first picture that really worries me. So after talking with my buddy and team mate, I think I have decided to turn this into an IT7R/STU build using the 13B MSP. I'm going to be liquidating some of my spare parts that I won't need anymore to help offset the cost but I'll keep everyone posted. Any input from any of you is appreciated and welcome!! |
Sweet stuff! Not so sweet about the grooves there tho :s
|
good luck on your build brother, car looks good!

I love the idea of a 13B MSP FB. Keep us updated with the progress on it, please. I will really be curious how you tackle some of the issues - like engine mounting, and ECU.

Waiting for engine work to be done. So in the meantime I decided to completely redo my wire harness and gauge/switch panel.
Old: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/77c7facb.jpg New! http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/81bcf296.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...d/db7d6d5b.jpg |
The back of the new panel... all plug and play between the panel and relay board.
