My R100, running strong but needs help

Hey guys. I've got a '71 R100.

Its been modified quite a bit over the years. It has a 12A from a first gen RX-7 that has been street ported with a Weber carb on it, it has '79 RX-7 front brakes on it, and probably quite a bit of other modifications. I recently acquired the car, from my brother in law, who has had it for many years. Before that my father owned it, since before I was even born. The car was modified in the early '80s by Louie Rivera for autocross use. It may have had a bridge ported motor in it in the past, I don't know the full history.

Anyway, the wearing components, except for the drivetrain, are pretty much toast. Bushings, sealed greased joints, shocks, etc... All pretty much dead. The car is driveable, but every time I pull out of my driveway I feel like I am just destroying the car by driving it with the suspension bushings and joints in such bad shape. Almost all the rubber in the joints is gone, especially on the sealed joints.

I figured I'd post here, introduce the car, and hopefully find a source for shocks, joints, etc for my car.

Here are some pictures : http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...e/IMAG0374.jpg

I love this car, its been in my life since I was born, and I want to treat it the best that I can. I just don't have the money to drop it off at a custom shop and tell them to make it right again.

What r u trying to get done? All of the bushing are available but their only in Australia. I think the whole bushing kit cost around $550 (don't qoute me on that). Anything else u need let me know I can help u track it down.

I really need to get it on a rack and take pictures of the underside, and have a mechanic that knows the names of all the rubber bushings, tie rod ends, and sealed greased joints to tell me exactly what I need. Once I get all those replaced, I can drive the car without it destroying itself. I also need shocks, but I'm not sure if the ones on thee are factory R100 shocks. I really need to take pictures and let you guys look at them / guide me on what I need to buy!

I found one website, customgarage.com.au , that said they can send me bushings for the car. Anyone else got some other sources?

That probably ur best bet. They have everything in Australia. Good luck let me know what else I can help u with.

See above Aus is where I get all of my rubber and suspension parts for the old school cars. The only trouble I have had is with idler arm bushings some of he JDM/ right hand drive ones aren't the same. Small problem, for those individual items you can have them machined easily enough here but it does cost a little more than going down to autozone.

I checked that out, looks like they have a few of the parts I need.

Anyone know of any Australian websites that have parts?

My first priority right now is to fix the brakes - The front calipers seem to be dragging. They are '79 RX-7 brakes so I'll just get new calipers, as they are very cheap.

Thanks a ton guys.

Phil's rotary is another place but their very expensive. What else r u looking for?

mattallac 02-12-2012 12:10 AM

phils rotarys is big money but sometimes they are the only alternative ,scotts old car rubber is great for weatherstripping and re speed in Canada has a good amount of vintage performance parts.

charlie Rx3 02-14-2012 12:13 PM

What is going to kill is the shipping from Aus.I order seat cover for my Rx3 from Phils rotary and shipping was going to cost me $625.00 for F'en seat cover.I order and got a set of rims ship from Aus for less.So good luck...

I agree Phil hits hard on the shipping , I wonder if he adds it to his profit margin .I just ordered vinyl door panel material for my door cards(rx2 coupe) and all together shipping to california was 600.00 US .I almost want to take a trip to Aus. with a parts list and a wad of cash to buy parts ,shit it could be cheaper and I get a vacation to go with my parts run. LOL.

That funny cuz I have been thinking the same thing... I know he make money off shipping I've called to get quote and every time I call I get different shipping quotes.
