Transmission up-date
Well I have a few hundred miles on my rebuilt transmission. I found it a technical challenge to rebuild it myself. I must say I learned a lot. A quick note here. The oil level appears to be important. Too much oil in the transmission produces a bit of clunking when going into second. Other than that works great.
Ray was great getting me the parts. Which leads me to my suggestion. I think we should have a RAY Madness sale here. What are your thoughts? Doc |
Anyone can feel free to post Rays current specials or any of his prices here on the site. It would actually be appreciated.

How much did the parts cost?
I"m trying to figure out what to do about my tranny also. I'm concerned about buying used b/c its a crap shoot. |
How hard was it?
|
I replace all the bearings and I mean all of them. Cost was about 560.00 for parts. I bought an old transmission to work on and took it apart and back together several times and then did mine. It took about 90 days all told. Others that I have done take about a day or so of on and off again effort. Had to build some special tools and such but all and all it was a lot of fun.

I'm guessing it was a manual? That seems like alot for a rebuild kit. Did you replace all the synchros too?
|
Yes it is and Yes I did. I over built it, but then again I always do.
|
Were the bearings the main parts that were worn or did the synchros look more worn?
Thanks. |
5th and 3rd synchros were bad worn. The gear bearings looked Okay but the end bear was shot and the case bearings were varying states of affairs. While i was in there why not do it right. It takes a lot longer to take it out and put it back in than to rebuild the entire transmission. And I am crazy

Thanks for the info.
I agree with your approach btw. Crazy would be if you offered to come over here and do my tranny for me. :) |
