Ported engine normal to have a rough idle?

Im just checking if its pretty common for the idle to be kinda rough like its got a cam if it was a piston engine. Its consistant just kinda lopey. Ive got it at like 1100rpm right now. Its rich as hell also. Still trying to see how to tune for the 1300cc secondaries without my datalogit which ill have back this weekend.

To some degree, just depends on how much overlap there is in the ports.

I have 850 primary and 1300 secondaries with a very good idle on my large street port with a pretty good amount of overlap. Something else is going on with yours.

Just change the injector size to 1300 on the commander, for the secondaries that will automatically adjust the duty cycle to compensate.

1300sec. don't effect idle at all. If it's idling super rich that can cause it some. Mine use to idle perfect til I but 850prim. in and now it lopes some(probably cause it misses) and actually pulls a lower vaccum. Just mess around with the idle fuel and timing with the commander. It's only a few cells.

huh looks like I just need to figure out the idle fuel and timing then for idle. Tuning anything in the PFC is all new to me.

You should get Chuck Westbrook's notes if you haven't already very helpful.

And where would one find the chuck westbrooks notes?

If you are still running the 550cc primaries the stock base map should not have the car running rich at idle at all.

Also check for vacuum leaks.. If you have a vacuum leak somewhere, it could also cause your idle to be rough.

Are all the o rings around the injectors new? Can you hear any high pitch noise? Also, make sure your wires are not crossed:)

Proxy One 04-03-2008 04:45 PM

huh, I need to check a few things but im pretty sure everything is good. Yeah all new O-Rings on the injectors. I did just notice that the hose/pipe that comes out the back of the manifold for the cat isnt blocked off. Should it be if I got rid of everything under the manifold?

SPICcnmFD 04-03-2008 04:50 PM

There is a hose/pipe on the back of the manifold that doesn't need blocked, that may be it. Actually I'm pretty sure that's it.

I have done the Mazdatrix (RB) mild and PineApple medium ports to engines, and they idle smooth with no sign of loping.

If you turn off the normal idle control system and manually tune idle timing and fuel, you can not only achieve a smoother idle but also leaner. That will be in the range of about 12 degrees IGL idle timing instead of the patheic retarded values that Mazda uses for emmisions control.
