Is your trailing coil good? Was it working fine prior to the swapping?

Mateepay 10-21-2010 09:54 PM

the car runs and drives fine anyway to tell wether the trailing is good?

If you have an OHM meter you can measure the resistance between the primary (+ & -) which should be around 0.1 on your coil but I'm not exactly sure on the specifics, if you have a Haynes it is in there.

If it hasn't worked since you purchased the car then there is a chance that the Yellow/Green tracer wire (i think green tracer) may not be connected, but then again you did state that the needle does jump. ? ? ? weird

Edit: The yellow/green tracer wire is the signal wire for the tach.

I believe every wire that needs to be connected is. distributor and coil connection. My car back fires alot and I mean alot could that be an attribute of no trailing plug ignition or poor ignition becouse of a bad coil?

Pull a trailing spark plug out and check for spark (keep it away from the fumes that will exit the plug hole when you crank it over). Could be a bad coil, or ignitor.

Move the coil signal wire from the trailing to the leading coil and see if that
helps your tach.

With all the backfiring you either have a spark issue or a fuel issue or both.
If you can rule out the spark then you can work on the fuel. Kind of hard to
deal with a fuel issue tho ift he spark is unknown quantity.

Checked the trailing plugs and didn't get anything so maby my problem lies with the coils going to get some today if that doesn't solve the problem with the tach I guess that would leave the wire

rx4ur7 10-22-2010 10:06 AM

Check your ignitors first.

Mateepay 10-23-2010 02:02 PM

pUt the new coil in... Nothing pulled some used ignitirs guess that's my next try

Mateepay 10-23-2010 09:56 PM

trailing ignitor was the issue!!! thanks for the help now....... to takle the delorto carb and sidedraft set up
