51r battery tray
any one out there making a battery tray for a 51R similar to the turbo jeff one that was made?

I made my tray to receive both battery post locations keeping the positive post at the top .It fits contured along the finder with an angle part to keep the battery from sliding into the motor .There two sets of threaded parts so I can move the hold down bracket as needed for the battery .It is bolted in with two stock threaded holes in the frame, body .The part that bolts in to hold the battery tray innercooler air box is replaced with a three piece brace that is adjustible so I can line up the duct work to the innercooler .The battery tray also sits on this brace .

1. your engine bay looks really damn good.
2. more pictures of battery box/holder/non-flying device 3. how much for non-fancy version of said device? There was a thread on the other page about people wanting a 51R holder. Goodfellas locked temporarily, which made it lose steam. Don't know if you want to made a few and try to sell them. |
I took picts of the battery tray ,it is out so I can clean the radatior, but the computor will not take the pics from the camera.I will try again after I get the computor worked on .

cool still looking forward to hearing from you.

goodness that engine bay is nice. I would be afraid to work on it, might get a fingerprint on it

I took the computor in for repair today.Hades, do you know what you need and can you make a cardboard mockup ?Better better still make one out of wood, very thin plywood ,and glue it together and install it for a trial fit .Drilling the mounting holes and holes for the hold down bracket .

there are blue prints on the other forum. You can look for turbo_jeff in the title and find them or I can try sending them to you.
Honestly I am surprised that no one has filled the gap for the 51Rr batteries. I know a lot of people are putting batteries in the rear bins. But there are some like me that don't want to cut or drill the bins and really don't want a tiny battery either. Do you have cad software? I can make a part in Pro/E sheet metal and have models and drawings if that would help. It may take a few days to get this done, but I have no problems do it if you think it would help. |
My tray is sheet metal and the braces and threaded parte are brazed on.The thing is 10 years old and in good shape .The last one I made for a customer about 4 months ago was steel 3/16 thick .The car was in the shop so I fit everything . What type material do you want to use,If you can make a sheet metal model then use some thick enough to do the job and there you have it .If you can not weld or braze the sheet metal pop rivit the parts and I can braze it for you,and remove the rivits .If you can not cut thicker materal and need thicker materal than maybe I can make one from your full scale model .
