tinted tail lights

I was REALLY bored one day and came across the "modernizing" thread for the S5 taillights. It kinda looked OK, but not really. I thought that with a little tinting added to it, it could look really nice. So I broke down the rear taillights and did the "modernizing" to them by sticking them in the oven one at a time for 2 minutes on 250 degrees. I then basically removed the honeycomb crap behind the lens And then sprayed it with translucent black paint for a nice and mean look... Im digging it.

Not to mention dangerous if tinted too much.

I think it would look better on a black car...pics of the lights on and brakes applied in the daytime and night-time? I wouldn't try it for the reasons stated above but it's your car and you know how you're gonna accessorize it to make it all match.

The removal of the diffusers makes them brighter so you might have offset that with the tint? Need more pics.

Looks pretty good - definitely better than the "modernizing" by itself. Personally, I wouldn't have tinted the reverse lights but props to you for leaving the reflectors intact.

Also waiting to see night time pics w/ lights on :)

As long as you use the correct translucent paint and remove the honeycomb, they lights are plenty bright. I dont have any night pics, maybe i'll take some later...

Damn near everything is illegal, but I'm sure that doesn't stop you from modding right! I would like to see a night pic though.

Still waiting for a night pic.

lights look really good...

a bit to dark IMO, but I like the 15-20% tint, it makes them darker, but not black like quite a few trucks I seen driving around my area..

where I live its not illegal to tint the lights... they just have to be able to be seen clearly from 30M (roughly 100ft) at night... and I think a bit less in the day time... although I could be wrong..

What bugs me is when tinted lights look more brown than black. From what I can tell these look pretty good. But yes, we need pics with the lights illuminated.

Prodigy 06-09-2010 06:47 PM

could be a bit of red trying to poke through...

hence why I like 15-20%... its still red, but looks kinda badass... like really really dark blood... :P

Hey man I think they look great.

I would have also left the reverse lens clear, but mostly because I have 5% on my windows and I need all of the reverse light that I can get.

Yes 5% is illegal here
Yes I've been cited for it before (not on my 7 but other cars)
Did I remove it? Hell No, just went to court and told the judge that I had, paid the fine and kept rollin. :)
