13BT and REW hybrid engine questions

So, I will make this a simple, you guys make it complicated.

Phase 1: FD roller
Phase 2: S5 13BT
Phase 3: ??

Discuss.

I would hate to have to buy another engine when I have one already. Also, I know the FD tranny's are 3rd/reverse damage prone. I would love to use an FC 5spd trans and clutch hydraulics, but then there is the PPF issue.

So, help me understand that there is no way to make this work, or explain how it will, and what parts are needed.

I am not against taking the engine apart.

Have someone compentent rebuild the tranny and don't abuse it, should last a while. That solves the PPF issue. Otherwise you're stuck building some pretty intense bracing mounting for the rear. PPF was there for a reason.

That brings about mounting the 13BT in the FD though. That's not going to be easy, I don't think. Benefit is though that you have the engine pretty well located with the PPF, so there will be little to no fore/aft guess work and only a little side to side.

A 13B-RE can have the rear iron tapped and use the stock FD mounts, I don't believe the lands are on the rear plate for the BT engine. I dunno if it's worth it to go through all the hassle, might be better to sell the 13BT and buy a 13B-REW, should be close to a wash and save alot of headaches. It's what I would do, but I'm going the RE route.

Congrats again on the addition DJ........ trying to fill your rotary stable before the thought of college comes to mind ;)

I haven't bought it yet, but it is a strong option. It is a friend of mine's, and comes with alot of goodies, just no engine or trans.

The plan would be to get a jspec and rebuild it. I would keep it mostly stock, except for reliability mods, and remove the rats nest. Still, I would have alot of questions since I am an FD noob.

Thanks for the help Brian!
