DGRR Caravan Routes

About 3 weeks till DGRR and not much info posted on caravans, date/time or check points along the route. This is the fun part of the journey to Deal's Gap, so let's get this organized. I know Chattanooga is usually the first stop/check point for the Alabama folks (I think Atlanta and Nashville too), so who's caravaning in and ETA? Come on people, post up! :)

Proxy One 03-29-2009 10:55 PM

Im going up on thursday morning and meeting the Alabama folks in Chattanooga for lunchie munchie

somchhir1 03-29-2009 11:51 PM

Phil said some of us local to birmingham will meet up around trussville mazda early thursday morning.....

Max777 03-30-2009 12:21 AM

I'm from central IL, so I was thinking to go down to Knoxville and get to the dragon from there? I dunno if anyone from Chicago or Indy might be going?

Redhawkjrt 03-30-2009 06:43 AM

Leaving from Springfield, Il. on Thurs. Wouldn't normally go through Indy but if anyone else from the area is going on Thurs. I could detour a little.

Herblenny 03-30-2009 06:44 AM

I know there is a Thursday and Friday group from Alabama..

Chattanooga is a good point to meet.. The thursday group will meet up there for lunch and then head into NVNC.. Its about 2 hour drive in from Chattanooga.

djmtsu 03-30-2009 07:10 AM

FerociousP and I are leaving Thursday at 4pm (CST).

Our route is I-24 to Chattanooga, 75 North to Ootelwah, then following the Ocoee into NC to the city of Murphy, then over to NVNC.

Should take a little over 3 hours.

PortedRotorTuner 03-30-2009 08:02 AM

Leaving From Columbus, Ohio

TitaniumTT 03-30-2009 08:54 AM

Anyone heading down from the Northeast and want to caravan? I'm thinking of leaving CT right after work on Thrus, traveling for about 6 hours and breaking for sleep somewhere in southern MD, waking up on Friday and and making it the rest of the way. All theory at this point, still haven't started the car

joewrx8 03-30-2009 10:33 AM

will be coming through Col. about 6am thurs. meeting cousin there his 7 my 8

classicauto 03-30-2009 12:27 PM

The canuck caravan will be leaving from windsor Ont. at 4pm on thursday. Driving until Cincinatti, then we break. Friday we'll be arriving in NV roughly around 2-3pm.

Not sure if that links up with any other caravans, we'll be heading down I-75 (? i think?) mostly.....

How are you planning to go? for me being in Champaign, I will need to go through indy, and I dont really see any other way except for taking the small highways around indy.

Perhaps we can meet up on the way?

PortedRotorTuner 03-30-2009 12:48 PM

We will be going From Columbus, Ohio on 71south.
Past Cincinnati, and onto 75

That's a wierd route. I figured you guys would be coming through NY and heading due south... looks like you're heading west and crossing the border in MI? Doesn't really jive with my route though... I'm looking @ taking 81 for the most part.

Yeah we'll be going through MI. We went this way last year, and I thought going through Niagara/Buffalo would be faster but suprisingly its not, so we're taking the MI route again.

I guess we'll catch you down there :)

Kentetsu 03-30-2009 02:35 PM

We'll be leaving Grand Rapids, Michigan in the wee hours of Thursday morning and plan to drive straight through...

HDP 03-30-2009 04:06 PM

Ok, so none of the locals posted departure times or checkpoint ETAs. Well, me and DeeDee are leaving Huntsville Thursday at 1:00 PM CST and arrive in Chattanooga between 2:30 & 3:00 PM CST (3:30 & 4:00 PM EST). We will be travelling Hwy 72E to I-24E into Chattanooga, I-75N to Hwy 74E and then onto Nantahala/Bryson City. Unless we are meeting up with others along this route, the only stops we plan to make are fuel and maybe a bite to eat. With that said, our ETA should be about 6:00 PM EST.

sk8world 03-30-2009 04:24 PM

Don, you are going Thursday?

HDP 03-30-2009 08:13 PM

Yes I plan to.

I guess so, that's a shame. Doesn't appear to be anyone heading down from the NE that I could hook up with. Shame, I was hoping to use a few FD's as radar shields ;)

You could always meet us for breakfast in Cincinnati Friday morning. Some people want Bob Evan's. I say OVERPRICED and shit for food. If I'm going to be forced to eat shit, I want to pay a fair price for it. (FYI Canucks, American chains have shit for food.)

What's your timing schedule to arrive at Nantahala Titanium???

There are quite a few people coming down from NE.. Check the other forums (NE section or DGRR section of 8 or 7club).

Daniel started us on the bob evans! I didn't mind it - they didn't force feed me grits like the awful house

DRTHVDR 03-31-2009 01:46 PM

I'm suggesting we go with a local breakfast place instead of a chain.
Any coney island or family dinner will do.

classicauto 03-31-2009 02:17 PM

you won't hear any arguments from me. greasy spoon FTW

HDP 03-31-2009 04:13 PM

Hmm, doesn't appear to be much organized as a whole, which really sux... I guess the fun will begin once everyone arrives.

Herblenny 03-31-2009 04:22 PM

Well, Unfortunately because some of us are leaving at different times, its hard to organize a BIG caravan..

Best is to post a time and try to work out amoung locals..

I'll set up a detail gathering for Friday, saturday, and part Sunday.

I'll post something by this friday.

sk8world 03-31-2009 04:54 PM

yeah, you guys leaving Thursday doesnt help! DON!

TitaniumTT 03-31-2009 11:05 PM

Yeah, I was actually the one that suggested that we leave thursday night....... then an account that an ADMIN gave to me was perma-banned again by a second admin that has a bit of a napolean complex so I gave them the ole' finger. I'll check the 8 club though.

Cincinatti you say..... that's ~11 hours for me. The trip to DGRR should take me about 13.

Arrival time depends on what time I get outta bed and the coffee kicks in on Friday morning. I'd like to arrive by 3-4 which means I need to be back on the road ~ 8 depending on how long I travel thursday night. Probably going to go till I can't go no more and find the nearest Marriot or Hilton etc. I sense alot of loud music and redbull that night

jtbshaw 03-31-2009 11:53 PM

Phil, let me know when you are heading out. Me and Hobby are planning on rolling out Thrusday morning as well.

Sorry, I thought that you were coming from Columbus. My mistake.

TitaniumTT 04-01-2009 07:54 AM

nope, heading down from SW CT.... basically the city. I saw a group on the DGRR map, I guess they haven't made it over here yet :D
