DGRR Campers Thread

So who is going and planning on camping? I cant find the other thread that was about this. But im a bit fiscally strained so camping would be my best choice. But does anyone know where i would go to setup? And costs for camp sites?

Whizbang 03-03-2009 09:02 PM

mazdadude7 03-03-2009 09:16 PM

I hear that there a few campgrounds around but I dont know anything about them. If they had nice bathrooms I might camp next to you...

Fontana Village has camping at Fontana dam. Its a nice area and very close to the dragon but not close to the rest of us. I dont know of any other camping closer to nantahala.

i've not stayed there myself, but the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort has camping available for $12 per night. i haven't called the resort that everyone else is staying at, so i may end up getting a room there if nathaalalalalalanala or whatever it's called is booked up.

this place is at the base of the dragon:

* Tent camping is available on a first come, first serve basis, no reservations are required.
* Rates are $12/tent for two people in the tent. There is a charge of $6 for each additional person.
* We have two sets of bath houses available for your use.
* No RV’s or camping trailers of any kind.

that sounds promising. Looks like the wife and i should make it. Going to probably get registered tomorrow.

dankru 03-30-2009 07:48 PM

we'll probably get more runs in than the other guys, too, since this place is right at the base of the dragon

we can still go to all the events at the 'official' lodgings, but we'll have our own little faction...

anyone stayed at this place before? i don't care what the accommodations are like as long as there's a small flat space to sleep and a working shower, but i'm wondering if they have wireless available. i guess i'll find out when i call them tomorrow.

oh, and if you guys want, you're welcome to my shower if I stay there

update:
Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort is booked solid for 15-20th, i just got the last room, which had to be the "apartment". if anyone is camping there and wants to hang out let me know, apparently the "apartment" is fairly big and even has a kitchenette, fridge, dishes, couches, etc.

Bringing this thread back.
Just wondering about it. Thinking of "maybe" camping this year.

Has anyone done this since this thread started?
What places did you camp at? How was it? etc, etc?

$18/tent, close to nantahala, has showers

sen2two 02-27-2015 11:53 AM

So are there tents there or would I have to bring one? Camping sounds like much more fun.

I've never heard of a campground that provides a tent. That would get expensive as idiots would destroy them if they weren't theirs.
