1 Attachment(s)
OK the day has finally arrived! My 93 has finally been sent off to be painted. So I guess that is where it starts. I plan on the following changes:
Some new clear lights for the bumper side etc. JKL Engineering front CF lip Completely updated suspension, including polishing the control arms etc. New 13B, not rebiult all new Interior changes to deal with the paint peeling on the 93s' plastics Complete performance computer with 7" TFT displa(more on that in future updates) More changes as I get closer to completion |
Great project. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

A new day s dawning
Thanks. I'm really excited about getting this project under way. The car should be back in about 1 month. Then the fun really begins. These cars are just too good to just let go. I've owned the car since Sept 1992. It will be better than new. Will have some new technology to show I hope when this one is done.

Awesome your probably an hours drive from where I am. Looks like your definitely starting off on the right foot. I'll defintely gonna keep an eye on this project in the future.

A new day is dawning
Hey thanks. Once I get this thing going will have to have a get together with as many RXs' we can find.
|
Where are you getting the new engine, I think Ray is all sold out last I heard and I didnt know they planned on any more new ones anytime soon?

A new day is dawning
I'm assembling the engine from new parts. I get a deep discount from my local MAZDA dealer. I will then have numerous coatings applied to the rotors etc. The irons will be sprayed the car color(RED) and the housings will be polished. Should be wonderful when completed. Thanks for asking.
|
Gotcha, Mazda ran some great deals on new engines recently and I was wondering if you were getting one of those as I was wondering if they planned on releasing any new ones.
|
A new day is dawning
I know Rotor Sports Racing had 6 new engines mid-summer last year. Don't know if they still have any. You may want to send them an email.
Thanks Jim |
New day is Dawning
Unfortunately no new pics at this time. The body shop has been kinda slow. But they called and want my approval on the paint. I chose to go with the original vibrant red. But the clear coat will have better UV protectant than the original. This should help with the fading. Also, no orange peel will be tolerated so we will see how they do.

A new day is dawning
Hey that sounds good. The body shop should have some color on some of the body sometime this week. It's starting to get exciting again!
|
finally some progress!

What do you guys think of my new engine bay?
|
dope boi fresh!
haha! :D too bad that most of that bay will be hidden under all the wiring, tubing, and other engine acessories. |
Yeah that's true but at least I will know what was done. Thanks
|
Finally the car is back!
5 Attachment(s)
Hi guys, got my car back from the painter. What do you think?
|
Any closeups in direct sunlight (or is #3 that?)? From what I can tell it looks beautiful with no orange peel (unlike my Mazda 6... ugh...).
|
A new day is dwaning
Yeah, they did an excellent job of painting it. They used what was called a glamour clear for this job. Wet sanded and polished etc. Looks better than new. I will see if I can get some more pics in direct sunlight.

Airbrush
If you notice in the 3rd picture. The emblems are airbrushed on. Makes polishing alot easier.

JKL Engineering Carbon Front Lip
2 Attachment(s)
I attached the JKL Engineering carbon fiber front lip tonight. It was installed on a pre 99 spec bumper cover. The only modification will be to drill 2 holes in the cover to support where the brake cooling air enters. Other than that it fits very well. Next task is the installation of the rear bumper brackets and bumper.

Rear Bumper Install
3 Attachment(s)
Finally moved to installing the rear bumper. I'm leaving the cover til after I've installed my rear view camera and remote radar receiver. Here are some pictures of installing it. The biggest pain was running the wires through the bumper.

Rear Hatch
5 Attachment(s)
OK now that the rear bumper is on I went ahead and put the rear hatch trim back on. The only issue here is just making sure you put the main hatch piece with the light on first, then the side plastics and finally the rear cross piece. Everything just clips into place.
|
that looks good
|
hatch trim
Thanks for the words. It's getting a little more exciting everyday. Can't wait til the day she is complete and I can run the beast. My plan is to finish putting her back together this year minus the engine. Then next year the engine build begins.
|
What the name of the place that painted your FD? Was it insanely pricey? Overall that looks great!!!
|
paint
Yeah the paint came out nice. It's not a 100 point paint job. But much better than factory. Plus I had the engine bay done, the front crossmember and steering rack as well. I brought the car to them pretty much as you see it. They took the doors, hood, fenders and rear hatch off. They used what they called a Glamour clear. The body shop was Nissens in Palm Bay, FL. The total including all the extras was right around 6K. But it really does lok nice.

Updated dashboard
2 Attachment(s)
Well it's been a little while since I updated this. Not much of real interest. Installing the interior, some under hood stuff. Brakes, wire harness etc. Boy are there alot of connectors at the driver side footwell. Still cant find the connector for the flashers.
Anyway here is what my dashboard will look like. Where the radio goes is going to be a 7" touch screen. |
