Legalized eunos cosmo for sale?
first of i had no idea where to post this. But has anyone ever seen a legal stateside eunos... id love to start one of these as a shop car, but i need to find one. Any help?
|
there was one at DGRR last year... basically "restored" (no dirt, oxidation, etc.) other than that I don't know of any
|
I think his username is BlueFlameFE

Try to get one that has already been legalized in Canada. It will make it easier. However there is precedent, since there are a few here. That makes it much easier to do, but you will need to do some safety updates I believe.
|
Canada will allow 15 or older Japanese cars to be street legal... Which means more and more Cosmo could be legalized thru Canada (and newer cosmos) to USA:)
I'm also hoping it will be cheaper... But personally, I don't care much about 20B cosmos. |
to me, that car is like mazdas skyline... it doesnt have the sportiest look, but it hauls ass.
|
To me it is like a Lexus SC300, if a Lexus was cool.
 |
id love to be able to do this my self. have it as my daily driver. honda punks would think its some kind of town car then you step on it and blow them away lol.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a rotorhead... But Eunos Cosmo is kind at the bottom of my list. Sure it came with 3 rotor.. But as a whole car, I'm not too fond of. Body style is so so and I prefer to get BMW 850 before I get a Cosmo.. But before I get a cosmo, I would buy a RX3 and REPU... But each to our own... |
I would have to agree on the BMW 850. I have always loved those cars, and a guy one street over has one. Hopefully one day he will want to 'get rid of it', so I can pick it up cheap.

Ultimately, I would like to pick up 850csi, 6sp, brembo brakes, etc... But those things still fetch mid to low 30s in good to excellent condition. Decent 850s run these days around 12-15K. Which is FD territory and for what you get, its not bad...
I think Eunos Cosmo at DGRR was 90 and sold for somewhere in the high 20s and mid 30s.. I remember seeing the auction.. Here is a screen shot.. No price.. http://rotarycarclub.com/attachment....1&d=1219671414 Quote:

The 8 Series cars are badass, but they can be money pits.
If one is barely trying to afford one, they probably will not have the funds for the car's upkeep. I drive an R32 GT-R. The Cosmo's concept is very similar to that of the GT-R. Touring oriented sports coupe'. Both are pretty ugly, and meant to appeal to an older crowd. But, the lack of a proper transmission is the Cosmo's weak point. That being said, they have a ton of potential, and torque (relatively speaking). A Skyline GT-R, and a cosmo would need a bit of mods to keep up with modern sportscars anyway. |

to me, its just the fact of owning that rare of a car. I drive and FD as it is, and around here thats pretty rare you dont see many. but a eunos, like stated already.... one hell of a sleeper. and i wouldnt leave it stock, the car would be a terror, project car constantly undergoing changes. but seeing as they are going for 20-30k ill back off for now, thats like supra status.
|
^ And doing an FD right is not supra status?
Doing any car right, is expensive. |

I'm sorry.. But I have to laugh about the sleeper comment... Reason is, 1. Cosmo is only known by rotorheads..... Most other people who sees that wouldn't know what the hell it is. Not only that, I think most rotorheads hype up that car just because it has 20B in it. But in the stock form, it not much.. And to make it into something to be "sleeper" you would need to do some major work! If I did to buy one of those and mod to make 600+ HP (which I don't think auto tranny will handle nor would I want to drive it with leather seats or stock brakes) I would have to spend probably more then if I were to drop 20B into a 3rd gen or any other RX body...
Second, in order to be a true sleeper... You need to NOT have that possibility of being fast.. which 20B cosmos already have this view by many.. even though it might not.. just because of the 3 rotor engine. Bottomline, I think of sleeper to be a civic that looks like stock and make 400+HP or RX2 or RX3 that looks stock and makes 300+HP. But each to our own opinions what sleeper is.... Quote:

you want to know what a real sleeper is a mark 8 with a built motor. shit a brick when i saw one beat a supra on the highway lol.
|
my dreams have been shot down.... herblenny schooled me on this one..... i guess ill build my PP N/A 20b ive been contemplating
|
There is no such thing as a shot down dream, unless you yourself shoot it down. You have the right, and power to do whatever you want to do in life. You can build a 10A Rotary N/A FD if you want to, and that is your dream. Just don't many people to approve of it. :leaving:
Herblenny has a lot of valid points, however, life is not always dictated by logic or the "correct answer". If you want a 20B N/A Cosmo, then do it! It has been done before, and there are plenty of pretty fast cosmos on this earth. Do what makes you happy! |
we will see.. i might start out our first project car with the FD we have now. I think we may do a GT40 with the tial v-band housing on it. now where to go from there.
|
I saw one a few years ago on the highway here. I was driving home late at night and I saw it up ahead of me just cruising. I sped up to see what it was since my exit was coming up soon. As I caught up to it I could clearly see the cosmo logo on the left hand side and the big rotor emblem in the center of the trunk lid on the rear of the car as we passed the light posts. I got to about a fender past his rear 1/4 and had to get off at my exit. It was deffinatley a 20b powered cosmo, the cruising exhaust note was so nice. Never saw the car again though. :(
The crazy thing is that this was around the time I was in the process of getting my FC and getting into rotarys. I had wondered what make that car was and found out shortly afterwards what I had seen when I hit the internet when I got home. That hooked me on rotarys. Man, now I really wanna get my 20b project going. I'd love to own a single turbo 20b powered JC Cosmo. |
I can help you get a cosmo here from japan.
PM me for details |
a sleeper is anything that would be viewed as not a worry in the car scene, but in fact is actually fast. cosmo's are not known to all & can be made fast thus making it a sleeper. hondas while make decent built cars have lost sleeper status in my eyes because they are everywhere & it's known there are quite a few that are contenders. now a real sleeper would be a old school 323 with a rotary or a beetle with a porsche turbo flat 6
|
This makes me wonder, can you swap a 13b or 20b into a mazda 929? I mean, i'm sure with fabrication you can, but i wonder if some stock mount will work?
|
i had talked to my wife about doing a millennia with a 20B, but we bought a 2006 Speed6 back in jan of 06 instead.

Curtis from Revinsevens had a 20b Cosmo that was TEXAS legal. Brought over a complete rolling chassis, sourced an engine/drivetrain. Put it all together, filed a LOT of paperwork and prayed that it didn't get sent back with a revoke. They accepted his papers and thus there is a Texas legal Cosmo floating around out there somewhere (Curtis sold it to someone basically as soon as the car was ready to go). He cranked it for me a few times before it was sold and let me explore in the car.
On the 850 note, to this very day I am still sickened just imagining what condition one probably is in by now because back in High School (which did have a lot of spoiled rich kids in the demographic) some 18y/o girl was given a baby blue-ish one by her parents. By the time we graduated, the car had all sorts of High School parking lot battle damage and was clearly starting to burn a little oil due to neglect and off she was always driving oblivious and not caring. Its a shame cars like those end up in the wrong hands more times than not. |

Hey just saw this thread:
I dont know how easy it would be to import a legalized canadian car into the US but if you are interested look into it because i see lots of cosmos up here as our laws allow you to import any vehicle over 15 years old. it might be easier to bring back a JDM canadian car than a JDM Japanese car? And as always i can certainly be contacted if you are interested in taking a look at any cars up here to help any one out (within reasonable distance lol) i know quite a few importers and JDM dealers up here and am totally familiar with the whole deal. |
LOL, I love all of Phils comments. The funniest thing is, he has a Eunos Cosmos now =P

I mainly bought it for the uniqueness of being RHD and the engine.. Besides that, its a heavy pig that drives like my old Acura Legend coupe :) My loyalty will always remain for 3rd gens.. Still best car I've ever owned and still think best looking and definitely best enthusiast car ever! |
13b Eunos Cosmo
Im a pretty big rotor finatic and im trying to build a unique project i got the 13b Eunos Cosmo motor im just neening to find a complete uncut wiring harness for it. Ive got all the means to make a 5 speed out of it i just need the wiring. If anyone could help out that would be great.
