And finally after months of excuses and total BS my painter finally finished the car, here are a few pics of the car. I'm still getting her back together so there will be more pics to come as I complete it.

Here's some neat pieces I'm saving to put on as the final touch. Not the seats, those are for the AllTrac.

Anyone know why I have two differently shaped rear quarter S4 trim pieces? I've never noticed this and I've owned the car since ~05.

David, I'm taking my sweet time so that doesn't happen.

One of the few nicely put together FC's I've laid eyes on... Congrats.

FC Zach 01-29-2014 11:01 AM

Thank guys! Vinnie, yours is pretty bad ass too!

The one side with the "roof" goes on the side with the gas filler door.
It's supposed to keep gasoline from hitting the lens if you happened to spill some during fill-up.

Ohhhhh! That makes so much sense, I feel like a big dummy. I was thinking I had two possible iterations of S4 trim.

Thanks Ted!

Hey, don't worry about it...
It's one of those really trivial things. :)
Car's looking nice!

More pics Zach.

When I saw the 'areas of concern' pics, I was expecting to see the same spots now, after the repaint!!

Come on!!!

Edit... Ted beat me to it. I was perplexed as well when I had all the molding off years ago...... but if you think about it, when the car is together, how often are you looking at them at the same time.... exactely....

Car looks great Zach!

Ha ha ha, exactly! I was thinking the same, its just one of those little things that'll go by unnoticed.

Thanks!

I cleaned up my duckbill spoiler a lot, sanded the rough weathered surface down and painted it. Turned out well and has a factory look and feel.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...5&d=1391069730

Got all my door trim on, eventually I wanna replace these rubber pieces with new.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...6&d=1391069836

Polished the FTP lenses, major improvement over the left piece.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...7&d=1391069882

The painter did a good job repairing the damage to the bumper, it was cracked really bad and in a few spots at the bottom edge where a lip would have been.

S5 mirrors on and paint matched instead of Blaze Red

Trim all taped up and ready to stick on, I don't think these will be falling off anytime soon LOL. I may have overdone these. Aslo I re-insulated the rear corners with new grommets.

We finally got some nice weather, figured I'd pull her outside for better pictures. Shiny! soon to be cleaned and waxed. .
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...2&d=1442815580

Since the weather was so nice I put the passenger side trim on.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...3&d=1442815887

Last of my parts to be put on the car, along with the rear mud guards. Two more coats and I will be ready to finish up the exterior Friday!

I wish I had seen this earlier... what I did with my S4 molding back in the day was paint it and clean coat the hell out of it. This way I can wax away and not worry about it getting on the rubber and discoloring it....

NICE! A little grease goes a long way especially in the motor and gears... that made a huge difference in mine....

I believe they are original to the car. I JB Welded the studs in place and clean them periodically.

Correcting myself, after looking at other glass sunroofs I found out that this is not a Pacific glass sunroof but instead it's a Golden Bronze. Wonder if this was still a dealer option or an aftermarket piece? Anyone know?

Got these on Friday morning, very happy with the results.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...8&d=1442811940

Next up was repairing the mounting point for the rear mud guards using JB Weld.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...9&d=1442812341

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...0&d=1442812358

Waited a day for hardening and the guards were ready to be put on :hurray:
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1442812433

I had originally thought about not bothering with repairing the mounting holes but I would have regretted it if the trim tape didn't hold. I bent up some aluminum to secure the guard in place, worked very well and is strong!

Since our unpredictable weather had slowed me down for a period of time, I had stalled on cleaning and waxing the car. Glad I did because a friend of mine is doing auto detailing and paint correction on the side, does a really good job too so I asked him if he would finish what the painter didn't do and also make it shine!

Here's a pic he sent me earlier, said "looks way better in person this picture does it no justice". I'm excited all over again and I don't have to wait 9 MONTHS to see results!!
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...6&d=1442810755

I'm so excited about DGRR this year since I'll be driving my own car! No more CTSV!!

85rx-7gsl-se 04-10-2014 07:16 AM

So you are excited to be traveling at a slower rate of speed?

FC Zach 04-10-2014 07:23 AM

:( Really just tickled I'm getting to take my car this year!

85rx-7gsl-se 04-10-2014 07:35 AM

Jess is excited that we get to have a rotary car this year lol. Although, I am pretty sure my cobalt would be the faster way through the dragon haha.
