Whizbang's Rally Car v3.0! The SABCD
Now with more SA! and more roll cage!
1979! Cage was logbooked through Rally America in 2011. Never raced. The kirky seat is just a roll around seat until i make the proper mounts. Game plan is make the turret mounts for rear suspension, upper link boxes for the four link, seat mounts, plug the sunroof, then paint the inner up. Obviously, there is much to do. FC front suspension, toyota 8" rear axle w/ four link / panhard. Haven't settled on an engine yet. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps24bd4eab.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psb91215b6.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psc244cfe4.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps758030f9.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psd2fc8dda.jpg |
That looks like a really stout cage. You planning on running in a faster class or staying where you were running? With all the legendary tracks out there, do plan to do any track racing?

I might take it to a track day or two for giggles. I can swap out the suspension for something more suited. |
by the way, Group 2 for the rotary means "non ported" engine. Group 5 is where you find anything NA and greater than 3.0L adjusted displacement, or forcefully induced (or both). Ported rotaries just get pushed into it.
my friends Integra is a group 2 car (which we are racing this weekend in Az. woot). Its a Honda ITR engine making like 193 whp or some crap. So that is the kind of competition car wise i have to deal with. and thus i am considering the 13B-MSP since Rx-8 stuff is hella cheap and with stock whatnot, i can make ABOUT that same power level. |

i would but they basically have no good transmission options, as well as, the rotary just being simple and small.
if i go V6 it would probably be a 350Z |
Brought the Toyota 8" axles and housing. EVERY 3rd member was gone. But this will let me get the axle housing done up for the four link and the axles machined.

stripped down and ready for all kinds of more work

Order camber plates so i stop tearing out the rubber from OE mounts. Also orders the wider ZG flares for the car.
I toss and turned on using mariah mode 1 widebody components to make a pseudo Group B look but the costs just plain deter me from doing it. And then factor that rally breaks things. I AM getting the Group C wing though damn it. |

pics of the various things!
new OMP HTE seat. Cut a big fucking hole in the floor pan for seat mounting reasons. subframe is installed! my 40mm inverted bilsteins, and T3 camber plates (hopefully they work out) http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps23f1c482.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...pscb4dccc8.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3ee836cb.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psd9f392c0.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9f9b54fb.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...pscc147ae3.jpg |

any idea how to go about making something like this? modding the factory LCA to something that isn't a rubbery binding mess.

PitstopUSA has the bearings. You'll have to do lots of measuring to get the right one and probably need a machine shop to make the receiver block for you. Knowing your love of fiddling with custom parts, it should be fun.

well 8" toyota might be 8" mazda IRS....

Busy day.
1. GSL-SE is officially gone. Cut the front corners for spares for the rally car. 2. Began the FD3S rx7 rear suspension. The gas cylinder is representative of how tall the towers will likely be since the strut mounts on top of the hub assembly. Various pictures of the FD rears and the spares (i acquired three dropouts in total. left one assembled for mocking up). 3. turns out the rear brakes are FUCKING HUGE since they ever-so-barely rub the inside of my enkei. Any rally wheels have a larger inner diameter? 4. Diff is nicely sized relative to the dewalt 18v batt used for reference. Good ring. Going with either 4.88 or 5.12. Currently has a torsen diff however, but i can get a clutch verison. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6e35cb3a.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psbe0646ce.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps100053ea.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6f51a856.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psec9c3e6e.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3d2a9a13.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psd209986b.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps61f457bc.jpg |
engine bay is done! finally! You would be surprised how much detail shit went into it. And how variable a person can be while welding.... used much primer and various paints.

Cool!

It looks like it fit fairly well. OK, so relatively well, considering just how radical of a swap this is. Very nice.

Moar!

Dropped the fd rear in favor of something better. It fit but wasnt satisfied with a few things. Now for toyota 8" 4 link.

wow I've updated this in forever....

well here is how the rear brakes turned out. Ideally they should be...good. Or at least decent.
Slightly modified and rearranged disc brake mounts for the front calipers of a toyota pickup circa 1984. rotor hat modified to fit my axle I already had machined to a Saab rotor (thanks JVL!), and a 300mm non-vented rotor for said hat! http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psxtosjhim.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...pspbbgfp1c.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psff0fnn2h.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psouukhhvp.jpg |
Schweet!
|
some quick updates.
Brakes are finally assembled throughout the car. The fronts are power slots with Hawk DTC60s. Had a local shop redrill for the 4x114.3 pattern and used the spacer modeled after aaron cakes write on that from 1000 forum-years ago. Also just wanting to point out the travel. This is full droop. Without the swaybar, which is how i had rally car V2.0, the car works great and I gain about 1.5 inches of travel. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...pselilprpl.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psxar2oqco.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psrxttduth.jpg |
Jumps!

You take that thing off any sweet jumps?
