Engine, tranny, turbo installed and exhaust started
1 Attachment(s)
It was a productive day. Got the engine and tranny in. Put the turbo on and started the down pipe. Everything was pretty painless except for that damn tranny. Also test fitted the fiero fan.

More pictures and some details please .

Did a little more work this morning. Intercooler piping pretty much all mocked up. Need to change the angle of the BOV's there going to hit the strut bar at that angle.
|
question: why did your intake manifold come from Japan? i ask simply because i'm trying to source one for myself (13B though). thanks.
you do quite impressive work. |

Are you looking for a 4 or 6 port ida manifold? I have a 4 port. |
I really like what your doing! If I had the cash I would boost my 12A..Not picking nor will I say I'm a expert at what I'm going to ask..It looks like you are pretty skilled with the welder wouldnt it make sense to change you FMIC end tanks so you have much shorter pipes?

I spent alot of time researching for my set up looking at alot of intercoolers with it just on one side. Problem with them was that the inlet/outlets were far apart. with this intercooler both the inlet/outlet are close together and have a lower profile for the pipes. There isnt alot of space on the radiator bracket to cut out two pipes that are far apart. I'm not trying to do that much work. :) |
good Lord you do awesome work. i'm really liking the way this thing is coming together. did you teach yourself how to weld or is that something related to your profession?

i was just curious because i check Ebay and Craigslist every so often for them and NEVER find one... anywhere. only place i've seen them new is Mazdatrix and true to form, since i kept waiting (until it was more convenient) the price went up about $70. :( |
lookin good Sean! nice carb hat :) that thing is blingin

Few pics of what I have gotten done. But actual work has been taking alot of my time this week. I started on building the exhaust, but I only had the turbo losely attached for mocking up everything else. I had to tighten it up and instead of doing it twice I figured I should finish the oil return and the braided lines. Then I could just tighten it up and consider that part of the build finished. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1358377458 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1358377458 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1358377458 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1358377458 |
What have you done for the carb and how much boost do you plan to run on it?
I actually have the 13BT IDA manifold and top hat which I acquired years ago while doing an ITB setup and have been thinking about throwing some 48IDAs on it and dropping the setup into a first gen with a stock turbo but I'm still a bit unclear on webers since my carb experience is limited. |

I ran 8lbs normal, 10lbs racing on my last setup and plan the same for This one. |
Where did you get the floats?
Nice build BTW :) 8lbs is the most I think I'd run with my setup.... still thinking about doing it... |

the exhaust looks great. how many pre mufflers are you running? it looks like there might be two in the picks.

I got the muffler and pre muffler from Parts Off in japan for 8000 yen. about 100.00 It's a Tanabe Hyper Medalion exhaust system for a Nissan Cedric. The Japanese stainless was 3" inside diameter and the stateside stainless mandrel bends are 3" outside diameter. So a chop saw and a tig welder its now for a 1st gen 12at RX7. http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358746782 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358746782 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358746782 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358746782 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358746782 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358747014 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358747014 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358747014 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358747014 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1358747014 |
exhaust came out great!

thanks Robert
I have been waiting on parts for the engine bay so I started working on the interior. When I got this shell the interior tar sound deadening had been removed. The only things inside the car were the dash, center console and the steering wheel. I started with the seats. I had to modify a bride FC seat rail to work under my recaro seats. Installed the rotaryshack short shifter and the Nardi steering wheel. the 4 point roll bar is a tight fit. test fitted the pioneer DVD headunit. Since there is no space left in the engine bay I moved the battery to behind the passenger seat. Need a few grommets to complete that project. http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1359955510 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1359955510 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1359955510 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1359955510 http://www.rx7club.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1359956519 |
