Keep or remove OMP....can't make up my mind...
When I am putting my new motor back together I need to decide if I want to keep the OMP or just block it off and premix. The OMP has 93k miles on it and I had previously bought a set of braided SS lines for it that were never installed. I guess my greatest fear is if the pump failed...I trust myself pouring in some oil each fill-up more than I trust the OMP...plus I am all about getting rid of clutter.
Someone talk me into one way or another. PS...I'm trying to make the same decision about my AST as well :banghead: |
I will be deleting mine with the new motor...as far as teh AST I deleted that a long time ago and I am using an AST for coolant overflow.

how much premix for each fillup 4oz?

Here is the thread from the RX-8 subforum dealing with premix: Premix

I've been pre-mixing for the last year b/c my OMP stopped working. Pre-mixing is annoying. I'd rather have the OMP do it for me.
I don't mind adding some if I go to the track but I don't like using it on every fill-up. The FD's OMP does a really good job and oil is injected at a variable rate - injects more oil as RPM and boost increases - which is more efficient. If you are pre-mixing on a 1 oz per 1 gallon basis, its too much for low RPM, off boost usage. However, that 1:1 ratio works OK for most WOT situations. I know my plugs are dirtier since my OMP failed and I started pre-mixing. Overall, very annoying but I don't have time or patience to replace the OMP. |

Well, I have decided to elimate both the OMP and the AST.
So if anyone wants some brand new braided OMP lines or a excellent condition used Pettit aluminum AST...go here... http://www.rotarycarclub.com/showthr...5689#post15689 .....now to continue a good discussion in this thread...lets talk about what type/brand of oil everyone runs as premix and at what ratio. |

I had some trouble with mine but believe now it was likely caused by a freak voltage spike from my stock ECU, as both OMPs sensor's were toasted. From what I gathered during searches, the OMP is otherwise pretty reliable and I now run a PFC. The most common failure point associated with the OMP that I was able to find were the stock lines. Since you have a set of stainless.... |

The only other pre-mix I might consider using is that one that Jack on the other forum said made the exhaust smell a little better. Sounds goofy but I'd try it to make the exhaust smell better. :) |
I have made several omp block off plates with the bolts and seal washers to block the two holes in the block for the oil lines ,they are not pipe plugs .Bolts and a gasket are included for $20 plus $6 shipping .The plate is steel .
