FS: 2004 RX8 with new engine

I'm selling a 2004 Brilliant Black Mazda RX8. 6 Speed manual. The car was purchased by me at around 150K miles and a low compression engine. Since that time, a Mazda reman was purchased, torn down, all clearances checked and light cleaning of the ports was performed before the engine was restacked and put in the car. The car has about 170K miles on it now and the engine is fully broken in. The car is equipped with the following parts:

- Reman Mazda engine with roughly 20k miles (rebuilt only to verify side seal clearances and to clean the ports up a bit)
- GReddy 32-way coilovers
- New Clutch and Mazdaspeed flywheel and counterweight
- Racing Beat headers
- Custom full Magnaflow exhaust from the headers back to include a Magnaflow hi-flo cat and muffler. Great sound and not over the top loud.
- 19" wheels with new Cooper rubber (less than 20k miles on the tires)
- AutoEXE fiberglass hood (this hood is over $1,000 to buy new)
- Tinted windows all around (including slight tint on front windshield).
- Sohn OMP adapter kit with custom oil resevoir (this allows the use of fresh oil from a secondary source instead of spending used engine oil in the OMP)
- New aluminum radiator

This setup made 194RWHP after engine break-in. The car has just been an extra vehicle around the house and a simple project, but my attention has turned to other projects at this time. The only known issues at this is the front speakers are not working and it did have an issue with the electric power steering sensor, but after cleaning the contacts it has been fine for several weeks without a hiccup. Must drive to appreciate.

I'm asking $8,500obo. The aftermarket equipment on this car alone is worth about $6,000. That doesn't include the reman engine core and rebuild! This car has at least $10k invested. It's just time to move on to other projects. I have owned and built countless rotary powered cars in the past, so don't hesitate to ask specifics about this car.

These are some photos (sorry for the black/white on most, I'll get some new ones if needed).

I also have the original OEM hood, stock wheels/tires and an unmarried Access Port tuner available with the car as well. Feel free to ask questions and make offers! If you ask around, there are some forum members who've seen the car in person and know the quality of the work performed.

This would be a great weekend warrior, auto-x or TT car.

Left a few things out of that list of add-ons huh?

I will throw up there that this car also has Mercury Marine coils which bested both the Bosch and LS1 coils on the last little test we ran at Speed1.

I've driven this car and watched him build it, it's a great car for somebody to take and beat down some cones with!

I think its time. I love the car but my turbo Fb is going to finished soon and I cant drive all of them as much as I would like to. It has been a great car and I'm gonna miss it.:(

Vinnie, how is your car coming along? are you going to DGRR this year?

I forgot the car also has the entire Racing Beat intake system and I installed the engine at 158,000 and currently the car has 170,000 so its only 12,000 miles on the engine.

rx7 vinnie 01-14-2012 10:02 AM

Man just working on the track car and getting it ready for the auto-x season. The other FC is on the back burner BC I had a ADD moment and bought a 2012 Harley davidson Fatboy Lo.... Somebody help me.

2gslse 01-16-2012 09:34 PM

Bump

fire85gslse 01-18-2012 10:07 PM

Looks nice, if my repu was sold along with some other stuff I might could pick her up.

2gslse 01-19-2012 09:48 PM

What shape is the Repu in? maybe partial trade or I may be interested in it outright.

WE3RX7 01-19-2012 10:28 PM

LOL! I think this could apply to many of us for the same reasons lol.

I told my brother about this car since he's been looking for one, but I haven't heard anything back yet.

2gslse 01-26-2012 07:09 PM

Nobody? any offers? I will remove the hood and put the stock one on to lower the price

splash67 01-29-2012 03:42 PM

Would you sell the hood???

If the car sells without the hood it will be for sale afterwards but I'm not going to remove it at this time.

rx7 vinnie 01-30-2012 08:59 PM

It would make me a nice daily.....

mazdadude7 02-03-2012 05:59 PM

im assuming your not interested in trading for a nice fc turbo plus cash

2gslse 02-03-2012 06:51 PM

Not at the moment. the car is currently pending sale depending on logistics. I will update status either way.

2gslse 02-23-2012 08:28 PM

Potential buyer disappeared, car still for sale

djmtsu 02-23-2012 09:17 PM

Such a good deal, I can't believe it has not sold yet.

TitaniumTT 02-23-2012 09:22 PM

Damn... everytime I look at this car I give it some serious thought... but I need a daily that can best 25mpg if I'm gonna buy it.

I can attest to how well put together this car is. It is still the highest rwhp n/a RX8 that has ever dyno'ed at this shop. AND it has even beat a few turbo'ed 8's.... No seriously, it did.

You know you want it, its DGRR ready.

TitaniumTT 02-23-2012 10:30 PM

 She sure is...

Prodigy 02-24-2012 12:26 AM

jeeze...

$8500 for a high mileage good shape, "powerful" NA Rx-8

you cannot even find a Rx-8 in Canada (Alberta atleast) for that amount unless it wither blown, (dont know how) or its a salvage/wreck...

damn these stupid Canadian new/used car prices...

our only hope is the 15 yr Import law...

If I had the cash, I would jump on this, fly down, and drive it at DGRR, then drive it back... all the while hoping for the best :P

J.

djmtsu 02-24-2012 08:02 AM

I was considering it when I bought my 8 last month, but I needed a warranty. Sucks, because this one already has most of the mods done to it that I am in the process of doing now :(

WE3RX7 02-24-2012 09:16 AM

I still can't believe the potential buyer disappeared like he did....

Brian - you could slap a MOTEC on it and I'm sure that magical ECU could net 40MPG EASY on her.... :)

TitaniumTT 02-24-2012 10:56 AM

Warranty?!? Pssssshhhh, I am my own warranty ;)

2gslse 03-02-2012 01:46 AM

Time to bump this back up. $8250/ OBO
I don't have to sell it but I can't drive this one as much as I should my time is split between this RX-8 my FD and almost complete turbo FB.

8up 03-05-2012 11:41 AM

Awesome ride, and smokin' deal.

I'm in the preliminary stages of shopping for an 8, but not to the point that I would want to bother you with questions and stuff yet. While I'm certain that I want one, I'm still new to the rotary scene and am trying to educate myself as much as possible about what to expect from these extraordinary machines.

No problem. Once you drive a Rx-8 for awhile it is like relearning how to drive all over again anytime you get into a regular car. They just don't handle or feel as good at speed like the 8 does.

Apart from the aesthetics, I think that and the uniqueness of the rotary engine is what's draws me to them the most.

I feel like this whole process is going to be frustrating. Car shopping in itself is a huge pain in the ass (at least for me.) With a car like the RX8, it almost seems like a better idea to buy one privately, simply because if you find someone who's into rotaries, you're more likely to find a car that's been treated right and maintained.

2gslse 03-17-2012 05:52 PM

1 month till DGRR car wants to go. but I'm not taking her.

rotarycrazy 03-17-2012 06:56 PM

dam this thing is tempting.

8up 03-19-2012 09:01 AM

Trying to convince the wife.

2gslse 04-04-2012 06:35 AM

Time to bump this up. Currently at 173K starting to DD more 120 miles a day and maybe road trip to Pa. later this week.

$8,000/OBO

somchhir1 04-17-2012 08:21 PM

Do you have any interior pics? I might be interested.

MazdaLand 04-19-2012 12:11 PM

Would you mind sharing the exact brand, model, size, and offsets for those wheels? Thanks

WE3RX7 04-19-2012 03:44 PM

Bump for 2gslse - he's at DGRR with us right now so it may be a day or two before he gets back to you all.

2gslse 04-28-2012 09:10 AM

Been busy lately but I can get some pics of the interior this week when the weather is better.
I dont know the offset on the wheels or exact model they were on the car when I got it. I believe the rear is 9.5" and the front is 8.5" and they are 19" MMR wheels.

Car must go!! turbo FB had first start at Speed1 last night

rx7 vinnie 04-28-2012 10:49 AM

If you still have it in a month I may buy it back from you.

imstillonjava 04-29-2012 12:45 AM

Is this car 50 states emissions legal? If there's no issue with bringing it to Cali, I'm very seriously interested :)
