my 87 base model AKA pineapple

Ok so i've been on the lookout for a fc, mainly a vert, to use as a daily driver. So i started looking and I quickly decided im to picky I wanted a s4 white vert with under a hundred thousand miles, a decent top, bone stock, and would pass emissions. Needless to say i was basicly looking for a virgin that was a pornstar in bed. So i quit being so picky and just said i want it to be a fc thats stock that would pass emissions, so to craigslist i went. After a few weeks of hawking craigslist and people not texting/emailing me back i found this
http://bgky.craigslist.org/cto/2585644601.html
It was in my price range and he actually replied to my email. So after texting back in forth all day jfaplanet(charles) and i decide to make the trip and drive up there, roughly 2 hours one way, so we get up there and it is in a little rougher state then the pics showed(or he said via texts) but anyway i drove it down the street it drove great decent idle, smooth rpm band, and started when warm. So i agreed and bought the car. So got it back to charles and cut out to replace the water pump, after purchasing we stopped to gas it up and realized it was leaking out of the weep hole. So i replaced that with a new one thanks to a buddy of mine.

So to give you a quick timeline i bought the car on wed, replaced the water pump on thurs, and passed emissions on fri. So ive been driving the car for almost a week the reason i wanted a fc is because i had hopes to not mess with it needless to say it needs some tlc, so here is the build thread part its gonna combine both maintence as well as upgrades because i can't leave well enough alone.

so cliff notes
- bought a fc
- its rough
- needs lots of love
- its a base model 4 lug, no bins, manual windows and mirrors, no spoiler, has ac,

so heres the good stuff
- 5 lug swap
- turbo 2 front brakes
- either springs and shocks or coilovers (rides like a caddy now)
- s5 taillights
- new windshield (current one is cracked)
- turbo 2 seats (current driver seat is ripped)
- s4 duck bill spoiler
- tinted windows
- clutch and new trans (throw out bearing is screaming)
- s4 steering wheel (horn button is mia)
- bbs vert wheels
- some kinda of lip for the front bumper not sure which one yet
- stainless brake lines
- stainless clutch line
- poly bushing kit
- upgrade sway bars
- ill probably leave the paint alone for now but we shall see

soo what yall think

1. Is that a spare?
2. You can't name your own car. I'm thinking "Tommy Tutone" would be fitting.

1. Not a spare, but rather the rare 'you get nothing' option package.
2. I'm down with the Tutone name of it.

IH8DSM 09-22-2011 05:22 PM

Charles and I put the s5 tails on and a s4 duckbill spoiler, woo now its nap time that was alot of work haha

Okay, this started out as a report post as spam, but I had to clean up all the crap that's off-topic.
This is just a friendly reminder that this is under the TECH DISCUSSION section.
If you want to post miscellaneous pictures, do it in The Lounge.
I believe most of you make the 20 post minimum to visit there.

This is also a WARNING to rx7 vinnie for posting vulgar pictures.
If you don't have a clue on what is appropriate and what is not, ask yourself if you would ever show a picture like that to your parents or your little kid sister / brother and be proud of it?
It's bad enough that you have no sense or reality when trying to sell your car that you have bad taste and judgement too.

Sorry Ted.....I know IH8DSM pretty well and i was just having fun. You're right...(in Asian culture)if my parents were still alive, they would not approve of my BBQ apron and would cane me with a bamboo stick as big as I am. As for my car sale thread (ouch)I'm aware that I wont get what I'm asking for it....just wanting offers to see what I can get.

IH8DSM 09-22-2011 11:49 PM

Yea vinnies a good guy,

So got a question I pop the hatch and it'll only pop when latch then I have to use my key to undo the othe other one I greased it and that helped some but is there a adjustment I need to do to the latch or cable?

*one latch, i assume? ? Lern 2 type u ignerant M'er F'er LOL

Each latch is held by two 6mm screws and is adjustable. Pull the carpet up to reveal these, or just the stubborn side.

IH8DSM 09-23-2011 01:04 AM

Auto correct on the phone don't hate haha, aight mr. zach ill investigate tommorow

j9fd3s 09-23-2011 04:48 PM

wow steel wheels, that's like super duper base model....

WE3RX7 09-23-2011 06:36 PM

So just so I'm clear... thats primer on top of the original blue to make the two tone look right?

IH8DSM 09-23-2011 07:34 PM

Super duper base, and yea not sure why the past owner did that im curious what's under there but at the same time scared haha

IH8DSM 10-30-2011 05:08 PM

So small update all the 5 lug swap is ready to go in just waiting on brake lines I ended up using t2 brakes and rotors, so they'll probably go on this week. So hopefuly tommy the taxadermy turtle will be 5 lug soon cause these steel wheels with the lowering springs I scrape exhaust everywhere 16 with decent sidewall should fix that

Boosted FC 10-30-2011 10:47 PM

Nice project & it looks as if it is coming along nicely. I woiuld also kill for a duckbill spoiler to put on my T2....lol

I thought we went over this. It's Tommy Tutone.

IH8DSM 10-31-2011 10:39 PM

It wont be two tone much longer though

IH8DSM 11-17-2011 11:41 PM

Ok bought a roller s5 fc for some random pieces now I gotta decide if I wanna swap the black s5 interior or sell it.

Also small update pulled rear cradle and fixed the diff mount. 5 lug needs to go on soon that blown rear diff mount ripped my axles and the pos steelies are sketchy in the rain.

My5ABaby 11-18-2011 08:52 AM

Swapping the interior is a pain. You really need to keep the S4 A/B pillars which means you have to paint yours. The headliner also needs to be dyed/redone because the S5 one is skinnier due to the wider S5 A pillars, which you won't be using. The rear carpet also won't fit perfectly because the S5 storage boxes are smaller to fit the larger S5 B pillars so when you keep your B pillars there will be a small gap (not really noticable unless you know what you're looking for). If it has the rests for the cargo cover (not sure if they all do), then you need to drill out holes in the body to fit the mounting pegs.

IH8DSM 11-18-2011 10:27 AM

It has the rests for the rear cargo. Damn and here I thought the dash was gonna be a pita

Oh it is. Unless you're ok with broken plastic, be prepared to fiberglass. I had terrible luck putting the '91 dash in. The plastic cracked wayyyyyyy too easy. The plastic on my '86 dash (grey plastic) was much more flexible than the '91 dash (yellow plastic).

You can always leave those rests off, but there's a pretty decent gap where they go. I ended up Dremeling the holes and then gluing the things in there. I'm not sure I needed the glue because I Dremeled them to be very tight fits.

I also forgot that the black front carpet has a bubble on the passenger tranny tunnel. I'm not sure what it's from, or if it's universal to black S5 carpet, but I can't seem to get it to go away. I don't see a difference in S4 and S5 cars there, but who knows.

Overall, I'm glad I did it but I don't think I'd want to do it again, at least not that way. If I did, I'd probably just take all the S4 stuff and paint/dye it. My dyed (formerly grey) center console looks much better than the stock black dash. And the painted A/B pieces look great. I ended up repainting the already black hatch lock covers because they were so faded.

IH8DSM 11-18-2011 02:01 PM

Im still stripping the car so I wont be able to do much swapping till later. I think I will end up doing the s5 moldings as well since they are in decent shape

Forgot about those... :001_07:

IH8DSM 11-23-2011 11:44 PM

Ok so been looking at the dtss eliminators and other bushings. So I have a few questions I read somewheres to not use the derlin (sp) rear diff mounts cause its to rough on the case and that i should use the mazdaspeed ones instead is this true or am i just reading this wrong. I think im gonna use mmr for my bushings, heard nothing but good things about them.

I've also given up on the black interior. I'd much rather just sell it and use the money to buy more parts. Also been looking for a set of crown vic wheels ever since i saw this red s4
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...c6d656a5_z.jpg
just makes me go from 6 to midnight

Rx7Spaz 11-26-2011 01:41 PM

Wow those wheels on that red 7 look sweet! I wish my fc was a s4... sometimes. I hate the auto seatbelts in the s5, many spilt drinks & choke holds haha. I wish I had stripped my s4 interior completely after it's demise.. might end up getting a racing harness anyways. Although the s5 has stronger plastics than the s4. I went through a couple brittle center consoles in the s4 & I have extra s5 center pieces if you're needing some. Actually I have enough parts to put a few fc's together so if you need anything let me know.
Love the duck wing had one on my s4 ;)
Good luck with your build!
