new old car

this saterday i'll be picking up an fb that i've been waiting patiently for 2yrs. the owner finally desided to sell. it's been setting for 7yrs waiting for someone to get it back on the road.it's an 84 gsl se,permison red with brown interior. i'll post pics when i get it home.

Kentetsu 08-25-2011 07:25 AM

Very nice. Get her running and then bring her up sometime. :)

i took it to a car wash before i got home and sprayed what i could off.

i removed most of the interior to clean it.all the padding under the carpet needs replaced,a dog pissed in it after it chewed on the pass seat. it's no problem though.

Nutsid 09-04-2011 02:21 PM

It looks like you'll have a lot of work ahead of you. Good luck with it all. I miss my FBs.

goose 09-06-2011 04:00 AM

Good luck with it... I love FB's!!!

fc nut 09-07-2011 04:53 AM

it's gonna take a little bit of time to get her back on the road, but it'll be worth it to save another 7 from the crusher. that's where it was headed if i didn't buy it. she should be running and driving by next year. right now,i've got most of the interior out so i can start cleaning it up.

fc nut 09-27-2011 09:46 AM

this past weekend,i put atf in it and the engine turns with a ratchet. as i was rotating the engine by hand it felt like it was catching on something and then i heard a "pink!". when i rotate it now,it doesn't make a noise, but it does feel like it's catching on something. could it be a broken apex seal?

Can't be good. I would break it open and see what the damage is before trying to start it. Might save you some parts on the rebuild.

LunchboxCritter 09-27-2011 11:55 AM

Here is 2 new housings for a good price (not mine, I just ran across them looking on CL).

Kentetsu 09-27-2011 01:06 PM

Pull off the exhaust manifold, then you can look inside the engine while you rotate it. You never know, it might just spit up an apex seal.

fc nut 09-27-2011 03:27 PM

i have a strong running s4 n/a engine in my fc that i'm considering swapping in.

fc nut 09-28-2011 04:55 AM

i pulled off the exhaust manifold last night and turned the engine. i put my finger in to feel if something was loose inside there and it felt like all the seals were still in the rotors. the engine is still in the car,so i couldn't see in the ports very good.i'm baffled. i'll probably pull it out and tear it down to see whats up with it.

fc nut 10-09-2011 06:56 PM

there was nothing loose in the engine. i tried to start it today and it wasn't getting to the plugs. it's getting fuel, the coils are making spark. i checked the cap and rotor and there was some corrosion on the terminals. i'm gonna change them out and try again. it wanted to start as bad as i wanted it to.

dabranco 11-24-2011 11:38 PM

You get her running yet? Looks good man.

fc nut 01-01-2012 08:45 PM

it's been a while,so i'll give an update. i ended up pulling the engine,it just wouldn't start. i'll be rebuilding it in the future. i'm pulling the engine out of my s4 fc and installing it in the se. i have big plans for the se's engine. i haven't been able to make more progress due to an injured neck. here's some pics.it's nothing special.

i found this rust hole after i removed the engine.
http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/z...-25-20_345.jpg

fc nut 01-06-2012 12:04 AM

finally i've made a little more progress. i repaired the rust hole and now i can move on to the fuel system. my fuel pump came today,so now i need to clean the gas tank and reinstall it and replace the old fuel lines. i'll be doing that tomorrow. i've got to get some gas for my welder,i hate the flux wire.

I've installed my s4 engine, clutch, trans, driveshaft, gas tank, fuel pump and filters, exhaust, radiator, clutch master and slave cylinder, new tires. the engine is running,so now I'm focusing on the brake system. I should be driving it this week.

2gslse 02-11-2012 11:02 PM

What harness/ecu did you use to put the S4 engine in? S3 electronics and S4 engine/manifolds or did you rewire everything?

fc nut 02-11-2012 11:14 PM

I used: s4 engine, intake manifold(secondary injector holes blocked), blocked off bac,egr,s4 water pump housing and pump.
s3: engine harness,injectors,rats nest removed,tps,ecu.
nothing in the wiring was cut or modified. in the clip it's idling at 4k rpm,I switched to the s3's tps and now it idles around 900rpm.

2gslse 02-11-2012 11:22 PM

OK cool I have a friend wh is going to do this very thing on his GSLSE and I wanted to confirm it will work out as planned. Thanks.
any pitfalls to watch out for?

djmtsu 02-12-2012 12:00 AM

Good stuff man!

I wondered what happened to this one. I want a GSL-SE some day.

Luthor 02-12-2012 04:10 AM

Nice man! Be sure to get all that rust off it =)

fc nut 02-12-2012 05:18 PM

Thanks guys,it's been slow getting it to this point.there is a down side,if you use the s4 water pump housing, you can't use the se's clutch fan. you could possibly use the s4's fan or go efan. also you might need to use the se's coolant sensor. you can't keep cruise, unless you make a bracket for it. you have to use the s4's alt bracket and the se's distributor. good luck,if you have questions, just let me know and I'll try to help.

fc nut 02-12-2012 07:30 PM

don't forget, you have to use the se's oil pickup tube, oil pan, front engine cover, air temp sensor. the tps bracket is different on the se. you have to remove the se's tps and install it on the s4's bracket. It's held on by 4 tabs. The se and s4 use the same omp,but the rod is different. I just used the s4's.

fc nut 02-25-2012 11:51 AM

I've got the front brakes installed as well as the pulsation dampner elimination bolt. I need rear calipers, they're frozen. I drilled the holes on the se's fan spacer bigger,so I could use its fan.

fc nut 02-29-2012 09:24 PM

update. the rear calipers are now rebuilt the system's bled. the car is finally off the jack stands and is ready for driving. I plan on wet sanding the tops and then buffing the whole car for now.

Luthor 03-01-2012 04:16 AM

Nice! Good to get some progress going on =)

fc nut 03-15-2012 07:01 AM

thanks. I've hit a speed bump though. I went to pull it out and take it to the car wash for a thorough cleaning and the engine died in the driveway. I was letting it warm up and it hasn't ran since. I've checked the coils, replaced the distributor, plugs wires. the cap and rotor are good. there's no power getting to the coils. it stared one time for about 2 seconds and that's it. I haven't had time to check anything else,I've been busy. I need help with this one,I'm baffled.

GySgtFrank 03-16-2012 10:05 PM

I ran into something like this, it might help. I used the entire 87FC harness when I swapped my 13B EFI FC engine into my 79SA so I'm not really familiar with the GSLSE harness. If it's similar (which it should be), your power for the coils will be coming from the main relay. Check to see if the relay is working when you turn on the key. If so check that the battery power is actually crossing the relay and making it to the coils. I've seen several people, besides myself, have this problem. It drove me nuts for a week until I figured it out.

fc nut 03-20-2012 08:59 AM

thanks a lot, I'll check it today. one of my problems is the ecu harness. mice made a nest under the foot panel and chewed on the harness. I checked the ecu and the relay ports didn't read 12v,it was .5v. I'm replacing the ecu as well, just in case the wires shorted it out.

fc nut 04-15-2012 08:50 PM

my se is on the road now. I washed it and took it for a drive tonight. on its maiden test drive I had a civic wanting to race. se 1 civic 0. oh, it was a newer si. anyway, it ran great. it needs some things done before its 100% ready for a spirited drive. here's some car wash pics.

i haven't updated in a while. i didn't post any pics of the car during the install of the s4 engine. i'll explain each pic as best i can about the swap.since i finished the swap,i've been working on getting the interior together and just driving the car.it's present state is,i need to replace the master cylinder and replace the coolant seals in the engine. i have a 12a trans in the car and let me say this ...... it runs like a raped ape.

this is the mods that needed to be done to the s4 intake.i had to block off the secondary injector ports with quicksteel.

fc nut 01-02-2013 10:00 PM

fc nut 01-09-2013 09:11 PM

here's the bay as of today. i replaced the brake master cylinder and it's a bit messy. i guess i could've cleaned it up a bit before taking pics.oh well,it's not a trailer queen.lol
