Body work by Project86

Well im gonna start this thread for

First off ill start with my car. Used to be red. I completely refinished the car while i was attending college. I was trained with BASF products (Glasurit, Diamont, Limco) and i use the same products on all the work featured here thus far. These pictures are before, during and after.

Next up is my friend Kyle's car. Its a Brilliant Black turbo S5. I moulded Panspeed replica overfenders to the front and will reshoot it a metallic black.

Currently the fenders are in primer and the rest of the car has been spot primed and is nearly ready for paint, minus general prep.

And now for FC3SMurray's

I just did his front bumper, lip, and fender trip pieces. I had to re-shoot his bumper 2 times... First time because I wasnt familiar with the clearcoat i used. It was extremely thin and it ran really bad. 2nd time i had to respray because im fairly certain the basecoat reacted funny with the product that was on the bumper from the first spray. So i sanded it down to the primer and reshot once more. This time i used a clear that i am familiar with. I still got a few runs as you can see. Ill go ahead and attribute this to my own lack of experiece. Temp may have played a part in it as well.. it was a bit chilly but i had to get it done. The runs on the surface are small enough that they can be fixed for sure. the runs in the fog light hole wont be seen when the bumper is on the car so i dont think it should be and issue.

Although im kind of wondering if im shooting the first coat of clear too heavy, which maybe what caused the runs this time around..:dunno:

Really it doesnt look to bad. Im trying not to be too hard on myself because there are alot of things that i just cant control at this point compared to when i was in school. There are a few more variables when you are dealing with make shift facilities.

Sometime in the future I would definitely love to have you bring my poor car's exterior back to life. Right now it looks cancerous, with the clear slowly peeling away.

Get here soon.

My FB is going to need a spray this summer, if not sooner/later.

Right now the front is half sanded/primered/looks like crap.

Also, when I pick up a new rear bumper cover from my Mazda6, it will need to be sprayed as well!

Here are the pics of the fenders in primer. There isnt a whole lot left to be done before the car will be ready for paint. Just have to DA the whole car with 500 grit and then clean, remask, etc. Hopefully ill have a paint date set soon.

Im personally pleased so far at how the flares turned out since this was my first experience with anything like that. LMK what you guys think.

Well damn! I was just about to but every time I try to attach a picture an upload error occurs. :dunno:

I made 13 pics of obvious areas of concern, I'll try again on my personal computer.

project86 04-27-2011 06:23 AM

Ok sounds good. Ill check up again after work today if im still functioning hahaa.

FC Zach 04-27-2011 06:31 AM

The problem was the file size being too large, going to attempt to reduce it tonight when I come back to work

project86 04-27-2011 06:43 AM

ya it the uploader doesnt like RAW files. I think i reduced mine to 640x480 or something along those lines.

FC Zach 04-27-2011 06:59 AM

Yeah these are JPEGs with a width of 4368 pixels and heght of 2912 pixels

project86 04-27-2011 09:36 PM

aaaaaannnnd we need pictures

project86 04-29-2011 08:39 AM

In non-rotary related work.....I may or may not be posting some pictures of this old trans am im working on for a guy here in town. It really is nothing special. Dents are just being removed and body lines being rebuilt. The work thats on it right now is fly by night. My first experience with fixing someone elses crap.

Let me tell you tis not fun. Basically what he wants done is just basic fixes. then we are gonna seal it and reshoot it. Some basic things that I personally would do are not going to get done because he really just doesnt want the time put into it.

If there is any interest in seeing the car lmk. Otherwise i probably wont take the time to post the pics up.

project86 05-07-2011 10:58 AM

Alright fellas.. Im gonna be doing some more painting today. Stay tuned. More pics soon.

jerd_hambone 05-07-2011 12:56 PM

Get to it burrother

project86 05-08-2011 09:50 PM

So i ran into a weird problem with the paint. I was mixing the reducer into the basecoat and it seemed really runny for some reason... I thought maybe it had something to do with a difference in brand.

Im at this point still plannin on using Limco base on the car unless the paint rep sends me up Diamont to replace it. But anyway. I went to spray the front bumper and it was almost like i was spraying just black water. It even ran off the corner of the bumper which is outrageous... so monday i will have more news and hopefully later this week pictures of the finished parts.

jerd_hambone 05-09-2011 04:43 AM

I have those same stupid push dents in the back. Luckily I don't a ton of dents, but I've got the custom gator skin too, and actually mines about 350 times worse. Haha

FC Zach 05-09-2011 05:06 AM

The funny thing is, most 2nd gens. I see have dents there. They were all more than likely pushed at one point in time.

Worse?! your car must have a terminal paint job.

project86 05-09-2011 07:45 AM

Good news is none of that is really as bad as it looks! :001_005:

...except for the places on the rear bumper you werent sure of.. those spots look like a really bad half assed plastic repair attempt.:cuss:

Your car looks pretty straight though. Im curious to see whats under the paint where you said the previous owner worked on it. sometimes those spots are tragically bad:beatdeadhorse5:
