Day 4: Rough Trimmed box, and I am going to test fit it again in a few minutes to make sure it still fits correctly. :)

well im fixing my trans and installing a new clutch/SS clutch line evo-r endlinks and a new 4th gear synchro....

LunchboxCritter 03-23-2011 09:25 PM

Glad to see someone else is hard at work. I think my task is a little more fun than yours. I recently, had to replace the trans in my 2nd gen rx7, and had to replace the slave in my F150. If I never have to wrestle another transmission back into a vehicle, it would not hurt my feelings at all.

djmtsu 03-24-2011 07:17 AM

I'm doing TOO much.

This is what is in my Mazda6 Wagon:
-MSD 6AL
-Holley Blue Fuel Pump
-Holley FPR
-FB brake booster
-FB master cylinder
-Full set of BBS wheels w/tires
-Wheel stud kit for FB
-Front rotors for the CX-9
-Front pads for the CX-9

Tonight I have to do the brakes on the CX-9. The rest of the goodies go on the FB this weekend. I also have a set of rear shocks that need to go on the Mazda6.

Too much work!!

Sephitrask 03-25-2011 02:59 PM

Going to be doing some more work on the 8 this week, all cooling related. Had a bad battery back in the fall that caused some damage that I need to take care of before I go and beat the shit out of it on a mountain, last thing I want is to get up there and blow a coolant line. Guess its Gonna be the Jetta for my drive to work this week:001_07:

rx7 vinnie 03-25-2011 07:13 PM

I'm just gonna go out my garage, look at all the work I should be finishing and turn around go back inside and drink till I pass out.

LunchboxCritter 03-26-2011 10:51 AM

Vinnie do you have that beast up and running yet? I'd love to hear it one time before we head to Florida.

rx7 vinnie 03-26-2011 09:54 PM

Nope sure don't, I have a bad case of ADD. I bought a dodge diesel megacab, and bought my sisters trailblazer with a blown engine to R&R and flip for profit.

what am i doing? hmmm ... i guess nothing with the Rx-8 at the moment. it will probably be another couple months before i'll be able to go get it out of storage, but i have a few things to do once i do. i don't really have anything too crazy planned for the 8, at least not for anytime soon.

repairs and maintenance:
1. track down a weird vibration i felt the last time i drove it
2. figure out why the car thinks the passenger rear door is open
3. steam clean the engine
4. see how Mazda tries to bone me out of the clutch pedal repair/replacement

modifications:
5. finish my exhaust system with a header and race pipe
6. Cobb
7. ignition upgrade

LunchboxCritter 04-05-2011 09:23 PM

Here are some test fit pictures. Getting close to being done with this project.

cleaning up the engine bay a bit, removed all the insulation from the firewall and fenderwells, also removed the air pump and pressure washed/ partially degreased the engine pay. looks alot better IMO

WE3RX7 04-14-2011 09:25 PM

Finished putting in the seat, relocating the OBD2 port and just waiting on tires :) Only have 100 miles on the clutch/flywheel so I need to do some breaking in...

willnordacgreen1211 04-24-2011 01:55 AM

New exedy stage 1 organic clutch kit put in today with the help of my local RCC friends along with the racing beat SS clutch line.

That's your first ever fiberglass box? DAMN! That's impressive. VERY nice work! And this is coming from a OCD guy who's spent too much time working with fiberglass.

LunchboxCritter 05-30-2011 03:05 PM

Thank You. Yes this was my first fiberglass box, and second ever experience with glass. I'm quite proud. I hope to do my door panels (in my rx7) similar to yours.

I actually did buy the things needed to make a mold so I could reproduce the enclosure. I spent alot of time looking at it near completion, and decided it would be more work than I was willing to do in order to prep it to mold ready condition. It is undercut behind where I would want to put the parting line, so I chose to go ahead and carpet the box and be done with it. I did not think the cost/benefit was in favor of producing copies.

4080 has already sold several of these type of enclosures for the RX8 (before going out of business), so the market demand had pretty much been filled. In a few years that might change as the 1st gen. RX8's become less valuable and more of the younger crowd can afford them.

speedjunkie 06-10-2011 09:34 AM

Yeah that turned out REALLY well, especially considering being your first one. Looks like you've been doing this kind of work for a while. So, how does it sound?

LunchboxCritter 01-17-2012 03:21 PM

Thanks Guys!

Update: Finally got the wiring for the install and integrated the steering wheel controls to the head unit. Here is my amp mounting solution.

Yes those are Slurpee straws used as spacers. :)

It sounds good. The sub has not yet broken in, but it's still performing very well.

speedjunkie 01-17-2012 05:32 PM

That's pretty cool, easy to get to the controls for adjustment. Nice addition of the Slurpee straws too lol.

Pilgrim 03-01-2012 03:08 PM

Very nice. Back in my youth I did a lot of customer car stereo work but that was when everyone built speaker boxes out of incredibly heavy particle board.
