My サバンナFC3S

Well my FC has been my first car, and like every RX7 owner you have a love hate relationship with your car. I blew my engine during spring break of my freshman year of college.

After much patience I finally sent my engine to Lucky7Racing in El Monte California to get rebuilt.

Here are a couple of pictures of my series 5 N/A engine as it gets turbo sleeves installed and a medium street ported.

Since we have to wait for a couple of parts to come in for the actual rebuild. Fris at Lucky7 painted the engine and mocked it up

Gabriel82 01-25-2011 11:38 PM

A couple of pictures of my brakes before my engine took a dump.
I upgraded from the 1 pot GTU calipers to the 4 piston calipers from a series 5 vert model. Had them rebuilt, same with the rear.

Also came up on an actual GTUs LSD unit for really cheap.
(The LSD unit is on the right)

So my dad has been rebuilding brake boosters and brake master cylinders for a very long time. He finally taught me how to do it. Here is a picture of the new rebuilt booster. I also changed out the clutch master cylinder while I was at it.

Lookin good.

diabolical1 01-28-2011 02:29 AM

the ports look good. i also like what you did with the brakes. how involved is it to rebuild a brake booster?

good job overall.

Gabriel82 01-28-2011 03:28 AM

Hmmmm well my dad has a lot of inventory so he had the replacements for the diaphragms inside. Basically you open up the booster take out the diaphragms, change them out, check out the seals, re-grease the seals and the hub. Paint the shells. It's a little tricky, but luckily my dad has decades of experience so he guided me through the process.

As for the port job thanks, Fris at Lucky7Racing is doing a great job.

Gabriel82 01-30-2011 09:22 PM

So the engine should be arriving this week. I'll post some more pictures of it once I get a chance. I'll also put some before and after pictures of the transmission after I gave it a good cleaning. + a couple of before and after pictures of the power steering after it had it rebuilt. Too bad I won't be able to install the engine until I finish up this term =/ at least I'll get to install my engine with the whole RB Street Exhaust system after I get more money.

lh6601 01-30-2011 10:29 PM

Very nice job. Have to ask, what do the japanese letters in your title mean?

Gabriel82 01-31-2011 12:01 AM

サバンナ means Savanna
so essentially my thread says:

My Savanna FC3S RX7

I just converted Savanna from english to Japanese using a translator.

lh6601 01-31-2011 08:14 AM

Ah makes sense. :icon_tup:

Gabriel82 02-01-2011 05:54 PM

Engine is almost done just needs the intake manifold, block off plates, etc.

nice build i should be like this in a few weeks! btw how much did your rebuild cost you?

Gabriel82 02-01-2011 10:11 PM

Thanks dude, good luck with your build.

Gabriel82 02-04-2011 12:23 PM

Replaced all the vacuum and fuel lines with silicon hoses. Here's a picture of the old crappy hoses.

Gabriel82 02-04-2011 12:25 PM

After nearly 2 years of collecting parts and getting my funds together it is finally time to pick up this bad boy.

http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...6768298253.jpg

Now I have to wait a couple of weeks so I can buy my Racing Beat Header & Pre-Silencer/Cat Replacement. I can't wait!! it is going to be such a tease having this outside of my car =/

Gabriel82 02-05-2011 08:44 PM

here are a couple more pictures of the engine

Gabriel82 02-05-2011 08:53 PM

Gregory Casimir
I paid 320 to get the irons resurfaced at Racing Beat
I paid 1200 to get the engine rebuilt (long block) that includes street porting, installation of the turbo2 sleeves, pressing of the bearings, installation of the intake manifolds and getting all the parts painted.

Does Racing Beat reapply anything to the plate surface after lapping them?

Gabriel82 02-08-2011 01:48 PM

From what I recall all they did was spray the irons with WD40 to keep it from oxidizing

Yasser_Hanbali13 02-09-2011 10:59 AM

very clean looking rebuild.

Gabriel82 02-09-2011 01:56 PM

thanks, I really appreciate it. Just a few more weeks till I get to drop in the engine :)

Sideo 02-14-2011 01:08 AM

engine looks GREAT

Gabriel82 02-15-2011 04:38 PM

Thanks, I should be posting a before and after of the transmission after I finish cleaning it. Hopefully I have enough time to mate the transmission to the engine.

Gabriel82 05-03-2011 09:28 PM

Okay so I haven't had the time to post updated pictures.

Here goes:
I started cleaning the transmission but didn't have enough time to finish it so my pops took over. He got bored staying indoors because he is retired so he had fun shinning the transmission up.

http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...10408-1923.jpg

Gabriel82 05-03-2011 09:30 PM

Before bolting up the transmission I decided to change out the mounts and the front and rear main seal.

Again my pops got a little bored so he cleaned up the starter

Gabriel82 05-03-2011 09:32 PM

So I took the liberty of rebuilding the power steering rack since I think it's the original one that came with my FC.

After:

Of course you have to keep your eyes peeled for some good deals. I came up on the racing beat cat back for really cheap.

Gabriel82 05-03-2011 09:35 PM

Not to long ago I bolted the transmission the the engine. I also mocked up the oil cooler with the RB SS Oil Cooler Lines.

I also picked up the Racing Beat Street Header and Pre-Silencer, along with Mazda Competition Mounts.

Finally got around to dropping in the engine and installing the full exhaust from header to mufflers.

Gabriel82 05-03-2011 09:40 PM

So a little update. I got to start my car for a good heart-warming minute only to realized I had installed an automatic chassis harness.I had to run power from the battery to a plug that had nothing connected to it. Once the current touched the plug bam! starter got power and the FC started pumping some blood again. Now, I have to remove that harness and put the original harness back on (long story why I switched out the chassis harness.) I also realized that my radiator cracked so I have to install this Godspeed Radiator I just recently picked up. But overall I am happy I got to hear is run for one good minute. I love how the Cusco Strut Tower Brace and Racing Beat Silicone Radiator Hoses match.

http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...10430-1830.jpg

I'll be posting a new picture with the new radiator and I'll try to post up a video of the engine running. I hope you guys enjoy the pictures of my build, if you have any questions feel free to ask. I will say one thing having your rotary engine start after such a long time of being out of commission is a very great feeling.

MaczPayne 05-03-2011 10:42 PM

Love it!

Gabriel82 05-03-2011 10:54 PM

Johnson: thanks

Let's see how this radiator holds up. It's better looking than an oem replacement but time will tell.

Gregory Casimir 05-04-2011 12:39 AM

nice to see it up and running dude. Man i can't wait for that moment when mine starts up again

Gabriel82 05-04-2011 01:56 AM

It's just one of those things you have to experience to appreciate. I literally fell in love with my car all over again

Gabriel82 08-01-2011 01:42 AM

So it has been a while since I posted on my build. I recently got my car on the road and I am putting in break in miles as we speak. Installed the Godspeed Radiator after modification to the stock radiator brackets. Purged the system, fixed the idle, and aligned the mufflers (still missing the hanger O-rings "no biggie"). I also purchased a cusco rear strut tower brace. My dad and me cut a small square notch into the strut towers to run the bar through. I love how it turned out.

let me guess, the radiator cracked at the filler neck? my bro has that same rad, and the neckncracked because it would hit the hood

and i wish my father would get bored and work on my car for me lol

good work, looks really nice

Gabriel82 08-02-2011 10:37 PM

Actually when we first installed the radiator we noticed that it would hit the filler neck. So we just lowered it even more to have good clearance between the hood and the filler cap. I love working on my rx7 with my pops, he loves that car almost as much as me.
