My BFF FB

Well I found another FB the other day and finally got her home today. the previous owner says that it has a bad side seal and a bad apex seal. They already started to strip down the engine and lost interest. I decided to pick her up and make a nice little cruiser out of her, since there is no point in building anything fast after gateway closed down.

Sorry for the crappy photos, once I give her a bath I will take some better ones.

So far total cost of the car(including the tow home) is $75.

I will try to grab an engine bay pic or 2(not much to see) before I head off to work.

EDIT: Ignore the drunk drawings of the previous owner and his friends....

Nice car and even nicer price wish I could find those deals down here.

djmtsu 01-03-2011 08:02 AM

Damn, and I was just in STL.

I'll give you $100 for it, and come pick it up.

Profit for you!

is it too early to elaborate on your plans?

Waffles 01-03-2011 01:39 PM

What I would like to do is:

1. New bushings all around and keep it at stock ride height
2. Small port on a 12a with the holley setup
3. minor exhaust work, nothing drastic or to loud
4. clean the outside and inside replacing what needs to be replaced.

diabolical1 01-03-2011 04:10 PM

sounds pretty solid. get to it. :)

Waffles 01-03-2011 05:03 PM

I would already be at it if I wasn't sitting in an airport. This always happens when I get a new toy, I hafe to fly off for a business trip. Its min this week and ohio next week.

IH8DSM 01-03-2011 06:56 PM

Haha more time to plan it out and more money for parts

Waffles 01-07-2011 10:06 PM

I got a chance to wash her today, here are the clean pics.

nice build.

Waffles 01-12-2011 07:32 PM

LOL, I just saw that a pic of my puppy got into the mix.

Anyway, I am dont traveling for at least a week so I should have the bad motor out this week.

Unfortanatally the guy who I was buying the replacement engine from had a small flood at his shop(1-2 feet of water), so I dont know the condition of the engine yet.

WE3RX7 01-12-2011 10:00 PM

Nice deal... that actually beats my all time best buy for a cheap FB! Good luck with that engine, hope it isn't swimming!

Waffles 03-11-2011 10:17 PM

I bought the motor that was in the flood tonight cracked it open and found this....

So far I have found no damage from the mud ant water. Looks like it just needs a good cleaning and new seals. I have not checked the specs on any of it yet, I will dig into that tomorrow.

Mothers clay bar will make that FB look real good!! you should give it a try...

GreyGT-C 03-11-2011 10:45 PM

hello bridgeport!

Waffles 03-11-2011 11:39 PM

so much for my plans to use a modded Nikki. I wonder of my holley 650 in the basement is enough....

djmtsu 03-12-2011 08:38 AM

That actually looks really good. Once cleaned up it should be good to go, you got lucky!

Whew, that is a nice port :)

Waffles 03-12-2011 09:52 PM

So with the discovery of the bridge port, do you think this setup will help?

intake:
Racing Beat bridge port Holley intake
Holley 650 double pumper
Quickfuel 150 gph fuel pump
Quickfuel adjustable fpr set for 6psi

Waffles 03-22-2011 01:58 PM

So parts are starting to come in for the rebuild.

racing beat Gasket/o-ring kit (showed up yesterday)
FD corner seal springs from pineapple racing
Viton oil ring inserts from Atkins
3mm solid corner seals from Atkins

The tension bolts are in good condition and i plan to reuse them, and the apex seals were low miles. Can you guys think of anything i would be missing?

I would think the 650 should be enough for the bridge...RB uses the 465 for a stock and SP 12A and 650 for the 13B bridge port :driving:

And if your build is like mine..money is an issue, anything you already have saves you $$ to put into somthing else.. Don't run a holley Red pump the buzzing will drive you nuts! and pick out a good FPR also..

Waffles 03-22-2011 05:25 PM

I am used to the hum of a fuel pump this wont be my first car with a huge fuel pump, but I am thinking the fuel supply and return line would be to small for the pump. I will most likely have to get a new pump and reg.

Waffles 03-31-2011 11:50 AM

Well I was about to reassemble the engine last night only to find out my Faïence while cleaning my desk threw out my brand new FD corner springs and my Atkins solid corner seals :(

Now i am waiting on parts AGAIN!

shit...that sucks big time :07:....the 650 will work well...

Waffles 06-19-2011 08:47 PM

Any ideas how to strip this thick of grease??? I am stripping it down to paint, so it does not have to be paint safe.

Waffles 09-19-2011 08:21 AM

Well marriage and moving really slows stuff down. I was out in the garage for the first time in over a month and got the engine assembled.
