Why did my engine blow?

1 Attachment(s)
Theoretical here... well for me anyway

So I've got this monster port HBP engine, running 6* timing:rofl:, .7L :puke: and 1900* EGT's http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1286390049 I've got a ton of meth, why did my engine blow?

Kentetsu 10-06-2010 02:41 PM

Better get on the phone to BDC right away. He'll know what went wrong for sure. :)

(sorry, couldn't help myself)

when i saw this thread... and the name under it... i about shit myself

I really wish there was an engine simulator out there that could do the flame propagation calculations and show you the issues with timing. I would write it up, but I am
  1. Not getting paid enough to write something like that
  2. I don't want to be the source of legal action when what I program isn't how it works in real life because some one didn't do something with their engine
  3. I am not familiar enough with GUI programing outside of matlab which can not run stand alone applications without an expensive add on deal
  4. And I'm only partially familiar with the concept of numerically computing the combustion process on a rotary

As to the OP I say it's an issue with the timing. If you're running .7 Lambda you should be making peak power with the proper timing, however it may also be due to other various reasons and to pin point it to a single cause I would have to see the actual numbers from the datalog.

For all I know a squirrel could have been sucked in by that massive turbo, made it through the impeller unscathed, and decided to munch on your apex seals while it went around the combustion process. Only to lose one of its teeth and that single tooth cracked the side housing.

As a word of advice I stopped listening to most people on the other forum after receiving the advice that I should rotate the engine slowly by hand until a bolt I had accidentally dropped down my intake manifold popped out the exhaust./true story

LOL I actually know of thread that I believe that same member posted that exact same advice.

I tell the OP to go V8:leaving::rofl:

How much you want to bet it was the same thread?

http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=734707

hahaha, looks like some one edited it but you notice a person mentioned not to do it to something that was 'apparently' never stated in the thread...

Censorship at it's finest

^sounds like the mods did a good job of removing bad advice

TitaniumTT 10-13-2010 08:11 AM

Unless it's specifically pointed out to them, they don't do shit. I've gotten into arguements with more than a few mods about how they should police vulgar acts of stupidity rather than vulgar displays of language. 2 of them actually argued with me that removing the bad advice wasn't thier job, it falls on the responsibility of the owner (which is in the user agreement) and one actually told me that there's too much bad advice for them to get rid all of it, so they don't go after it unless it's brought to thier attention (and when I did, they still wouldn't remove it) and that their basic job description is to get rid of the bad language, flaming, racism, porn, etc etc. I thought it was a joke, but they were completely serious

^TTT, but...um..you'd argue with a rock :P

That forum does get alot of traffic, more traffic means more bad advice, I'm sure they have their hands full doing what they do. I enjoy spending time on this forum, that forum and nopistons also. I hate to say it but I like it more over there since the changes. I'm not into the drama, bickering and flaming. My real life is dramatic enough, I deal with enough assholes at my job. Last thing I want in my personal time is drama.

BDC = expert in self induced engine failures

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Everyone is good at something, and he is the best in the world as far as I am concerned as is many of his ex victims/customers :icon_tup:

Where is this rock giving bad advice aznd talking out of his ass? Post up a link damnit!

My gripe is people buy into this shit and at the end of the day it hurts the community, at the end of the day, that's what we try to be and people getting scammed, lied to, taken advantage of.... well.... it makes a not angry person angry

RICE RACING 10-14-2010 07:43 PM

There is a Thesis in this shit for some uni student for sure............

I think you're missing a punctuation mark in the title.

Do you know how many tuners love meth injection and stick by it? I personally do not use it anymore or agree with the use of AI. I see everyone jumping on BDC and I don't agree with him on a few things but don't knock the guy.

Howard Coleman preaches meth injection as the savior to the rotary engine, how come you guys are not knocking him?

Anthony

TitaniumTT 10-18-2010 04:31 PM

I do. But he's not on this forum all that much, nor has he had personal issues with anyone here that I am aware of. I do still think he's a kool-aid pushing guesser.

HC bothers me becuase he proclaimed himself as this mechanical engineering genius with his parellel twin turbo setup. I read up on it after he put it up for sale and the first thing that got my attention was (after him not knowing how to tune it and having needed to take it somewhere) and this is paraphrased here
... ahem
You need to datalog everything and know how to interpret it (this I whole heartedly agree with), if you're not datalogging, you're guessing
(fast forward)
I can't get the engine to idle worth a crap. My L's are perfect, my egt's are nice, timing is great, EMAP is 11psi (as soon as he said this it basically completely reaffirmed everything that I thought of the guy) I don't get it, blah blah whine whine...
(fast forward a little more)
Thus and so at the turbo place that I am taking all the credit from says that 11psi of EMAP is too much at idle (no fucking shit genius) so we swapped from a stage whateverthefuckmarketingscheme to a differentwhateverthefuckmarketingscheme turbo hotside and now I have (i can't remember the number but it was a dramatic improvement) and now the car actually idles.
Without seeing his porting or taking any of his engines apart I can't really comment on his engine building abilities, but his tuning and turbo choice leaves alot to be disired from what I can tell.

I don't understand why some of these people have such cult followings

A hand full of deluded key board bandits posting shit/groupie worship on a forum is hardly a "cult following" Though I have to say some peoples opinions of themsemves based off forum rantings while holding NO actual qualifications I.E. (BDC rx72c HC etc etc) is very comical.

RICE RACING 10-20-2010 06:31 PM

I rest my case, why post shit like this??????

> It would be funny if it were not so tragically comical http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=903611&page=10
