Renesis Bridge Port

1 Attachment(s)
After WAY too much time wasted in completing this project, it's finally going to be in the car in the next 3-4 weeks. I'm hoping to assemble the engine by next week, but i have the weekend with my daughter next weekend, so the swap would be the following weekend at the earliest. Depends on how fast we can get the base maps back so the thing will attempt to run right.

Front cover is painted. Just have to finish painting the rest of the motor over the next couple days, and it'll be ready to assemble.

I'll post some more pics when I get home.

The actual port work:

Just a question for you, why is the exh port shape look funny? The outside upper edge of the port curves in instead of keeping with the original port shape. I see "BDC" did this for you, what were your goals for the car?

reddozen 08-30-2010 01:08 PM

I'd be happy with 300~350 to the wheels once I go FI at some point. This was more of a guinea pig project for bridge porting the Renesis.

There's a lot of debate weather it will have any noticeable impact on the engines performance... we'll see in about a month... lol

I'll dyno it once it's broken in. We'll have a better idea of what's realistic once I get there.

Awesome. I was wondering when I'd start seeing port work done on the Renesis. Maybe you're not the first, but you're the first I've seen haha. I'm eager to see the results.

RotorDad 01-13-2011 04:09 AM

Why are you selling it?

Complicated I guess...
Legal bills, normal bills, family pressure...
If it doesn't sell, then I'll put it in the car.

reddozen 03-14-2011 01:16 PM

Engine is getting stacked today!
It's going in the car on Saturday!
GAWD DAMNED FINALLY...

I'll post some updates on everything this afternoon, and throughout the day on Saturday.

speedjunkie 03-14-2011 03:32 PM

Awesome, glad to see you're keeping it. Let us know the results, I'm eager to see how it does.

diabolical1 03-14-2011 10:04 PM

good to see it's not getting shelved indefinitely. i guess it's just a matter of waiting until Saturday.

Sephitrask 03-15-2011 10:24 AM

:lurk5: Can't wait!

reddozen 03-15-2011 11:09 AM

well.. as my recent luck would have it, we were missing a set screw in the stationary gear... *rips out hair*

Called the local Mazda dealer, and they wanted $15 + $5 shipping, and Friday delivery.. I laughed at the guy and hung up. Called Racingbeat and they told me that the dealer list price is $7... gota love the stealorship. Racing beat didnt have any, so they directed me to Mazdatrix. The were able to ship one priority mail for cheaper than mazda, so we should still be on track for Saturday... FML.. lol

Yeah, the dealer markup on prices is ridiculous. Just like the ignition coils they want $65 a piece for, when I can get them at oreilys for $33 with a lifetime warranty, and its the same damn part. I dont get why they want to run off their customers by giving them the shaft every time you need something...

Sephitrask 03-15-2011 12:32 PM

So if all goes well will we be seeing this car at DGRR?

Of course.. it will be there regardless. It was there last year, but there was nothing really special about it. I have something else I'm hoping to surprise people with by deals gap, but it all depends on how much time i have to get it done...

yes, gotta love it. it vexes me to no end since i can't express my full contempt for these dealers, and to an extent even MNAO. :36:

IH8DSM 03-15-2011 02:55 PM

You can assemble a motor with out the stationary gears. What set screw are you talking about anyways

reddozen 03-15-2011 03:13 PM

The Renesis engines come with set screws in the stat gears for the bearing.

So much hate for Mazda dealers :) You should have called me. I can get parts from our local friendly dealership for right at cost. You have to be nice, and get to know people :)

Seriously. I just ordered a bunch of OEM shit for the 84 GS for much, much less than I could get anywhere, even used. And we are talking interior bits and door seals and shit.

reddozen 03-21-2011 08:28 AM

YAY for more setbacks...
Apparently Atkins left out a side seal, and sent RX7 FD apex seals... They're sending me the correct seals, so it will be 3~6 more weeks before I have another opportunity to try and put the motor in. I'm not very confident that it will be ready for deals gap, but we'll see...

speedjunkie 03-21-2011 04:49 PM

Dammit man. I hate setbacks that include shipment of parts, which is a good percentage of them haha.

Sephitrask 03-21-2011 05:39 PM

Well, if you happen to live in north eastern Florida I would be willing to help out with the install, but you prolly don't so best I can say is good luck!!

djmtsu 03-21-2011 07:39 PM

Brian, how come it will be 3-6 weeks????

It'll probably take a week to get all the parts, and I'll have my daughter for the first time in 6 months from this weekend through next weekend, so that already puts it off for 3 weeks. Then I have to go to my dad's house and get tools for next time, cause that was a bitch to take apart. We had it handing by the top 3 tranny bolts and no way to break them when we had to start putting it all back together cause I need a car. I'm not looking forward to doing this shit again, but it has to be done, and I need to change my clutch anyway.

Anyone know how to repressurize the clutch peddle? That was all I lacked having everything reassembled last night.

Sephitrask,
Thanks for the offer... I'm in Tennessee though.

I'll take any help I can get though to keep this process from taking 5 days again... there's no reason that it should have taken this long... It's just a bitch with hand tools, and trying to "make due" with a very limited selection. I need a 3ft extension and a wobble socket to get to the tranny bolts easier for next time.

What do you mean by "repressurize" the clutch pedal? you mean as in bleeding it out so it doesn't hit the floor instantly when you push on it? When I had to replace my clutch master cylinder I bled it out at the point were the line going to the slave cylinder connects, cause I didn't want to deal with the slave cylinder. However, if you had the whole thing apart, bleed it from the slave. below is a link to the factory service manual on that. The only thing I would add it to unbolt the slave from the transmission and the bracket holding the line, it will make the process MUCH easier.

dunno if this helps or not either, but here ya go.

yep, thanks for those.. I printed them so I can resolve that tonight hopefully.
We'll pray that I can still get this in by deals gap... I still have to replace my clutch anyway, so it may be a possibility. I have to get started on my other project that I want ready for deals gap too...
