added power 12a??
im currently getting my 1st gen set up for auto cross trying to find moderate increase in horsee power any hints?????
1. Exhaust
2. Intake 3. Ignition Check the mods in my signature. They all contribute to getting me to 134 whp which is >50% increase from stock. Exhaust is always a big win and then a better carby setup is second. Anything after that is smaller but it all adds up including weight reduction. Of course it depends on what the class rules are for the autox your doing. Some of these mods might bump you into higher classes. So you have to weigh the mods with your goals. |
check the rules first. it doesn't make any sense modding yourself out of competition.
I race in CSP, which allows you to remove emissions and add carb, exhaust, and suspension. Check my signature for the mods I run, then take a look at my videos to see the results. I have a very happy car. :)

i would like to run my 83 in a competitave class ive ran in g stock against mr2 and miatas and didnt do to well any opinions on a good class for my car..... ? ive also already done a header back exhaust and i can feel a minor increase in hp
I believe that if you've already changed the exhaust system, then you're already looking at CSP. A fully stock car would be in E stock.
A fb can be competetive in CSP, but you have to do a lot of work to get the car up to snuff. I eat Miatas on Hoosiers on a regular basis, even with cheap tires on my car. 90% of it is due to suspension setup. |
ya thats what i was assuming....... so instead of horsepower i should focus on my suspension?
Also having a pretty bad housing leak above my exhaust I'm contemplating an engine rebuild would it be smarter to toss the 12a or restore it
Describe the "housing leak" above the exhaust. What are you leaking? If it is coolant, then you should look at the orings between the intake manifold and the block.
its an oil leak i believe it smokes really bad when getting off the highway i'm pretty sure its oil becouse it smells like oil assuming that any ideas ? still drives and gets great compression for 145000 miles
If you are finding the oil around the exhaust system, then it is most likely coming from the oil metering pump. No need to throw your motor away man, just fix the little part on it that is causing the issue and you'll be all set. :)
The OMP is located on the front bottom passenger's side of the engine. It will have a rod the runs up to the carb, along with a couple of lines to carry the oil that is injected into the carb. A very common place for leakage. |
sweet do you know of a link for an oem or similar repplacement??
could it be more than that if it also jas grease build up allong the front of the engine also a bit on the oil pan and front piece of metal under the fan......... help if i get pictures??
That could just be years of buildup. I would start by giving the motor a very good cleaning. Get in there with a brush and some engine cleaner, make it sparkle. Then it will be much easier to determine where the leak is originating from. Besides, its always more fun working on a clean motor and engine bay. :)
thanks that sounds like the right place to start thanks for the help will deffinetly get back to you wen i have the engine cleaned
Cleaned the engine finally and it is the oil meetering pump that's leaking I ordered a gasket to fix it for now but i also blew a Coolant line right under the oil cooler T_T
...which probably means that the oil cooler is leaking too. This is typical. Oil drips down onto the rubber hoses and causes them to detiorate, then finally blow. If so, then you need to replace the orings in the beehive. Not a big job, this was the first repair I ever made on my car.
Good luck. :) |
i replaced the hose ordered the other coolant hoze under the beehive doing a tach swap this weekend and it wasnt the gasket it looks like the oil lines from pump to carb guess thats next
found the issue rotted oil injection lines problem fixed receently came into the possetion of a 84 with a disk rear en sidedraaft intake manifold and a delorto 48 ida also had a rb header so stoked ont the 83's build now
