If I even see you in the vicinity of my wheels with vice grips I'm going to punch you in the dick. |
Now we are getting kinky yeah?!?!?
I didn't say I was going to do it, I'm saying if you forget the wheel locks again, YOU'RE going the HAVE to do it :smilielol5: |
Just buy a smaller socket notch the locks and bang that lil socket on there take off wheel lock.
|
Or just weld a damn Nut on the end..
|
That's all fine and good if you are willing to ruin the lugs. I have the wheel locks keys, I just didn't have them up there when we needed them last time. I don't plan to ruin nice lugs for no reason.

Sad Tyler sold his FD. |
Well it was another weekend of long hours and a lot of work. Once again gotta thank Brian for putting in the unnatural hours with me. Going to sleep at 7am is getting old
Started with glaze and sand, glaze and sand, glaze and sand for what seemed like eternity. Brian and Pete inspected/measured/stacked a short block in the time I spent sanding  https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G...731_010150.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E...731_010157.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I...731_025724.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f...731_025742.jpg At the end though the work paid off. Nothing like rubbing your hand (or other appendages :suspect:) accross some freshly 400 grit sanded glaze :o16: Once again the paint gun was giving us fits. A fresh rebuild kit seemed to make things worse! A wrong parts diagram, two stripped fasteners, a removed seal, and a lot of cussing later we had a functional gun. With the gun working as it should Brian laid down some more beautiful paint work. Which turned out to be the biggest cock tease ever. More on that later, let's enjoy it while we can. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3...731_153130.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-u...731_153140.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-p...731_153152.jpg So why was the paint a cock tease? Because it's the wrong fucking color :( The shop that painted my car specifically told me the color was called Frozen Grey Metallic from BMW. So that's what we got. Unfortunately it is several shades darker than the paint on the car. BMW also has a color called Frozen Silver Metallic which looks lighter and what I'm guessing is the actual color of the car. Soo ~$400 worth of paint wasted. Not to mention the time and effort. :icon_no2: At least there will be much less to prep for the next go around. And silver lining pun intended :awesome: Brian and I both really like the Frozen Grey Metallic color so it may appear on something in the future :suspect: |

Ah yes, I've been through being told the wrong color. Although mine was only a front bumper.
That engine bay does look great though. It would look good over the whole car I imagine. lol, wub you Bri. |

I like the color, but I'm perfectly happy with the current color also. No chance in hell I'm repainting the car  |
That's looking damn good Mike!!! It makes me seriously consider asking Brian to add engine bay painting to my list of work when mine goes up... :suspect:

Did they mistakenly tell you the wrong color, or were they lying? Because I was told it would be Mazda black, then they used Lexus black because they had some left over from painting another guys car but took my money for paint anyway because the owner was a crooked prick that ripped his own mom off for $10k, and that's barely scratching the surface. I'm not bitter. LOL |

Update: paint round 2!
Brought a fender to the paint supply shop to have it matched. The color isn't perfect but it's close enough. Under fluorescent lights you can tell it's a little darker still, but under the sun it looks damn near spot on. As with last time props to Brian for laying down the paint. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...2&d=1471875785 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...3&d=1471875806 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...4&d=1471875822 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...5&d=1471875857 http://www.rotarycarclub.com/rotary_...1&d=1471875977 |

It's been a while, but we put the holiday weekend to good use!
I got my built/blue printed trans from Speed 1 and got it all cleaned/painted and ready to install. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484668996 Did a lot of powder coating this weekend as well. Once the ABS is installed you will pretty much never see this penetration plate, but the little details make me happy, and I really like how this came out. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484668603 Modified (to give clearance for wiring harness) and powder coated ABS bracket. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484668603 Got the tranny, brake booster, master cylinder, ABS, and lines installed then it was ready to put the engine in! http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484668603 Looks so small in there! http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484668603 As usual I gotta thank Brian for all the help, hard work, and long hours! :cheers2: |

Got the radiator and oil coolers installed. Unfortunately I'm going to have to change the position of the AN fittings on the radiator. I didn't account for the AC compressor when I mocked it up :( Two steps forward one step back, but what can you do. The brace is there to simulate hood clearance.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484669491 Finished the intercooler cold side piping (added Tial BOV, and welded the vanjen clamp on the Greddy elbow) and installed the intercooler. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484669075 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484669075 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484669075 I have to say I really like the way it sits and looks without the bumper and with all the heat exchangers staring you in the face. So raw and mechanical! http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1484669075 |
Looking GOOD!!!!
|
I have to say that, again, I love this color. The rest just looks like a whole lot of hassle and a waste of time.
For real, though. This build is top notch and I am ready to see it operating under its own power... and in person. Great looking build and the work going into it shows through. |

New update. Been very busy with work, so as usual haven't had as much time to work on the FD as I would like. I got the ducting figured out and mostly complete. Also got the velocity stack intake tube setup for the turbo. I'm really happy with how that turned out.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1489429236 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1489429261 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1489429280 Still need to finish weld it. Velocity stack on the fresh air side. There is a filter that goes on this as well. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1489429302 |
