Go with the side-port setup.

I hate it when ppl get there 3 or 4 rotor engine for the first time and port the shit out of it.
See what its like with stock ports first, and play around with boost. Then later down the road if you still desire to port it, do so.

I've been keeping an eye out on this thread.
So once again, I'll give you props on your building skills.
Inspirational.

Some new parts for the rear.
Waterjet is beautiful!

Go big or go home.

If its a drag car, might as well go all out...

Its its going to be a street/race car, might as well retain some driveability... all that work for it to be a hassle to cruise down the street seems like a waste.

Raksj04 08-30-2012 05:45 PM

Do you mean full side port like the RX-8 or similar to stock 13B-xxx ??

Monkman33 08-31-2012 11:43 AM

side port intake, peripheral port exhaust. Can still make big power but be street drivable

Tegheim 08-31-2012 01:44 PM

Yes, "full" sideport as large as possible. Like the secundary maybe.
And then a little peripheral port, maybe 25-32mm :)

I would suggest that only if you could stage them. Side ports optimized for low/mid-range power and driveability and have the peripheral ports activate at higher engine speeds to really open up the top-end. Unfortunately that would call for one hell of an intake manifold: 8 runners for the side ports, probably merging into less, and another 4 for the peripheral ports!

Tegheim 09-03-2012 01:35 PM

It's tempting, but complicated :)

Last friday I recived some new parts.
1pc front, 1pc rear, and 3pc intermediate-plates from FD.

But I'm still looking for good housings... I have 2pc S4 N/A-housings that I can use, the other two are just for mockup.
The best would be to find 2 S4 N/A, or get 4 new ones...

Let the mods begin :-)

I have one S4 N/A housing. But it is in Wisconsin.

lol I would sell it to you for cheap. I just think the shipping would cost too much. I am not sure of the condition because I blew a Apex seal in the other housing. I was able to drive the car home on this one rotor an housing. However the engine is torn apart. And my mom wants it out of the garage.

Tegheim 09-08-2012 01:45 PM

Mother was with me in the garage today :)

Therapy!
Made me two custom-bolts with one side M10x1 to fit the front iron, and a regular M10x1.5, who is standard, on the other side.
Just to make me a dummy :)
Feels awsome to see the engine for the first time, even that it is a fake :)

I almost forgot.
Here in Sweden we have an old auto-profile that we call "Bosse Bildoktorn".
The translation is "Bosse the car-doctor" :)
He has his own radioshow that people call and get help fixing their cars...

Here he is with my "shaft" ;)

is that a housing with out water jackets or ports??

Mobius 11-10-2012 03:41 PM

looks like a sleeve for an intake/exhaust port.

Tegheim 11-11-2012 11:50 AM

Rather big exhaust port then...

Once again it doesn't surprise me you made yet another homemade part.
I wonder what your going to do about the center plate gears.
But I'm sure you'll come up with something. :)

Tegheim 11-24-2012 03:12 AM

It rolls on! Have got so far that I could push the cage down from the boxes and start welding.
We have a total chaos in the garage right now, it use to be pretty crowded, but now it's extremely ...
We've only 100m2 to share :)

Started with one side, it took a terrible time because I was terrified to grind too much every time. Think I lift up that pipe in place hundreds of times.

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/z...122_195609.jpg

Pipe number two took 10minuter :)
Suspect everyone is doing like this, but I simply took two paper and rolled around the ends of the finished tube. Templated by, measured the distance between the papers on the tube, and made sure the seams were aligned with each other.
Then I took off the paper, and turned inside out on the next tube. Mirror: D
Again, it was I who was a coward, leaving a few millimeters on the first try, but then I put on like a glove!
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/z...123_151953.jpg

Here is a view through the speaker hole. The passenger side rear view.
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/z...122_195330.jpg

Welding!
It was at the famous, that it was possible to bring down the cage when it is so tight everywhere.
Had to break away mounts to the dashboard.

Better a careful coward rather than having to call yourself a stupid idiot as you tear it all out and do it again. :)

Tegheim 11-24-2012 01:22 PM

Have welded all of the cage so far, and did also the rear axle today.

Some stainless flanges for the exhaust done by a friend with waterjet/aquajet.
But they are about to get stuck in the CNC before they are done :)

Sounds like you need a Life Racing ECU to control this 4 rotor beast. Your engine and fab effort deserves a professional racing ECU.
I will be happy to help you out ;)

Much better than motec, and cheaper, with zero rape policy for codes etc

Tegheim 11-27-2012 01:55 PM

Done with port matching and a little offset just to put the pipe into steady when welding.

WankelsRevenge 11-27-2012 04:03 PM

That thing looks amazing, to bad you wont be able to show it off once its on the engine.

Tegheim 11-27-2012 04:09 PM

I hope it will show for the one who bend over the fender :)

Have used the CNC Lathe to turn my bushings to all wishbones today. Also has a movie on this, but it is so cruel big, so I have to do something there ...

Acetal (POM), also called Delrin, and stainless steel sleeve which is internally reamed to tight fit the bolts.
