I dunno what you're talking about... changing 8 plugs is a breeze.... turn wheel full right, get 3' extension, swivel, and socket and go to war... easy peasey

My hearing is pretty bad, so I'd like to hold onto what I have left. The exhaust system is going to get a little ... umm ... complicated in pursuit of that goal.

Soooooo open dumps on the turbo motor is out?? Pussy

I'm going to lose about 6.5 inches of boot ( ;) ) space due to raising the floor that far. It will allow me to fit the muffler, with plenty of air space around it, and to fit a standard 20 gallon fuel cell (24x20x10) if that's what I end up going with. The bottom edge of the muffler and the fuel cell will project below the car by about 2 inches, but I don't think that should be a problem. It's not a 4x4 and departure angle shouldn't be too big of a worry.

What about weight transfer? That's what.... 10% of the gross weight of the car when you fill it up??!?!?

That looks tight... a little too tight for me.... and I would try to find a replacement FC tanks before committing to that... Would hate to see the SA stall out because you stole from Peter to pay Paul and Peter ended up being Peter Peter cock eater....

The downside is that I will probably have to use one of the Spin Tech mufflers from the SA behind the tank as they are narrower. They were a bit loud anyway and I can use the RB Muffler in the SA when I get to putting the turbo motor in that. I could use the RB muffler in the MG, but I'm afraid there would be too little air space around it for me to feel comfortable. Especially considering how hot a rotary gets the muffler. It will also necessitate running dual 2" OD pipe to just before the muffler. It's going to be that tight of a fit.

The up side is that I will have the same or better cruising range as a stock FC and the pieces will be stock replacement stuff designed to work together. It will also save me about 1000 dollars for fuel cell, pump, fuel pressure regulator, and whatnot.

I'm all for saving cash..... but I would still look for an FC tank just to make sure... and no, I don't have any... all mine were trash and ended up at the recycling center...

Looks good though! Looks real good... just make sure it's finished before the new year... would hate to have to come out there and kick your ass.... well... Maggie will... missing one year fine... 2... not happening... for your safety... I suggest finishing quickly!

Yes, open dumps are out. Only wannabe ricers run an open dump on the street. :squint:

I did give that some consideration. I came to the conclusion that I would rather add a little extra weight to the back of the car than have to stop for gas every 100 miles because of the dinky 7 gallon tank. It will be about 10 gallons more fuel, so about 60 lbs with a full tank?

It is tight, but there is nowhere else to put it. These cars are tiny, light, but tiny. To give you an idea of just how tiny here's a picture of a Midget parked next to regular vehicles.

The tank I have is in good shape. It was fine for several years in the SA and had premix in it since I got it. A new tank is expensive as shit, but at least they're still available if I have any problems. The SA is going to need a bigger pump anyway and I would rather spend the money for a fuel cell on it as it is more likely to actually need it.

Thanks. I'm certainly giving it my best shot, money permitting.

Tell Maggie to put the knife down.

This is what I've been fighting with for the past few days.

I had to weld a few different angles together to make a pass through in my fuel tank enclosure for the stock fuel filler. The vent pass through only required a straight piece, so that one was easy. The fuel filler involved a bunch of different angles, so it was a bit more of a pain to do. I'll get paint on the enclosure (some of it will be impossible to get paint on once it is in) and get it welded in position, pictures of that will be forthcoming.

The muffler enclosure, which fits behind this piece, will have to be done in the car. The entire tank and muffler piece will not fit in the trunk opening so it needs to be done in two pieces.

You might want to use a beefier lift next time...:willy_nilly: looks good!

It works well for holding parts up for painting too. Nice to have adjustable height while spraying large pieces. :cheers2:

Good work anyways :D

Actually so would I, but the little green monster had other ideas. I'm planning to go turbo with the SA so most of these parts need a new home anyway. That is going to require a re-think on some of the stuff on the SA, so probably just as well.

Best laid plans of mice and men. Or something like that. :auto:

We all have our hanger queens. Sometimes they just require longer stays in said hanger.

True, but having a hangar queen because you choose for it to be one is far more enjoyable than when the car chooses it for you.

Nice, what's your turbo plans, REW or TII ?
Youll have plenty of tire for it.:auto:

I want to go RE or REW, based upon the way MC and Brian built his engine. The power levels and torque would be perfect for what I was looking for. It could be a long project though, as just getting all the parts together to do it will be expensive.

JL1RX7 07-21-2015 08:18 PM

Or you could try to find a big enough tire iron to take the keys from MC. :boxing_smiley:

sshhh! I've been trying to lull him into a false sense of security so that he doesn't suspect me when his car disappears some dark night. :suspect:
