Haha! The pilot tool was never the problem. Once Charles got in the engine bay and tilted the motor, it slid right in.

Fuel tank is in good shape now. I have de-sludged it, and now just need to take it to work this week and steam it. We have a 3000 psi pressure washer with a 220 degree burner. That will get the rest out, then I'll flush it with acetone or denatured alcohol and put some fuel and Sta-bil in it.

Potentially the first start could be Sunday. Charles is going to make the wiring for the electronic dizzy and S4 alternator. That is really all that is left, other than topping off all fluids.

Give battery a good charge for cranking Vaseline?

djmtsu 06-10-2014 02:25 PM

Getting a new battery. Vaseline shouldn't be necessary! (unless it becomes sexy time)

So, here is what is going on with the Cosmos.

The White car is going to get the engine and trans from the Silver car.

The Silver car is getting an S4 engine, retaining the FI, with hopefully an SA/FB trans (for easier mounting).

My FC is being unceremoniously being evicted from its hiding place at the beginning of the year, so I'm pulling the drivetrain, and parting it out, or selling the shell. I am keeping the wheels on it though, since they are GSL-SE pattern, and I am switching to GSL-SE spindles/rear end on the Silver car.

djmtsu 01-23-2015 04:20 PM

Still working on these.

The white Cosmo is shelved until the silver one is running and driving.

Need. To. Make. It. To. DGRR.

Johnny_K 01-23-2015 07:45 PM

^ true Dat. If u don't get it running u can drive thr fb and or the fd.

djmtsu 02-14-2015 11:14 AM

Having a problem with the white Cosmos' title. It might be relegated to 'parts car' for the silver one, even though it is nicer.

Dammit.

djmtsu 03-26-2015 04:10 PM

Did some work today, with some much needed help from Charles.

-Cleaned up the engine harness. Now there is only about 5 or 6 wires left.
-Wired up the electronic dizzy and coils
-Wired up the S4 alternator
-front clip back on
-fuel pump and lines installed

We put power to it for the first time in at least 16 years. Amazingly, nearly everything works.

Here's a list of what still needs to be done.
-figure out why I have no brake lights
-figure out why the wipers/washer doesn't work
-bleed clutch
-fill rear end
-fill trans
-fill oil
-fill coolant
-clean tank (happening Sunday)
-fix oil leak at oil cooler thermostat
-figure out why driver side mirror doesn't work

Should be all buttoned up this weekend. Knock on wood.

djmtsu 04-03-2015 10:29 AM

POR-15 kit is on the way.
1998 Nissan Quest e-fan is here.

This weekend, I will be installing the e-fan and buttoning up the engine wiring. Also, running some tests for the wipers and brake lights. The only good thing is, everything that is wonky on the silver car can and will be stolen from the white car for the time being!

Being a newb is irrelevant..... I'm just offering to tow your car....... To the crusher.

almoststockfc 04-03-2015 04:35 PM

Actually I have brought a car. Once. Y don't the bikes count? Is it because they are worth more than the cars?

rx7 vinnie 04-03-2015 04:36 PM

It's gang up on DJ day!!!!

I like soy sauce.

djmtsu 08-11-2015 07:52 AM

Here's a dumb update, since it has been like 4 months.

I bought a 1992 Miata roller. Did some measuring. And now I'm going to attempt an IRS swap from the Miata onto the Cosmo.

Pray for me.

t_g_farrell 08-11-2015 10:07 AM

WAHT! Sounds insane, do it and I'll watch.

djmtsu 08-13-2015 08:52 AM

It all seems like it might work. Same width between the rails for the front subframe, rack, suspension arms, sway bar is all contained as a unit. Only serious modification would be to lower the shock towers. For the rear, there is tons of room back there. The fuel tank is in the trunk, and there is nothing else back there. The rear is also a self contained unit. Nothing except the strut tops is 'outside' the assembly.

GySgtFrank 08-13-2015 10:56 AM

Go for it. Sounds like a definite improvement to the solid axle and you won't have to worry about breaking it with a rotary.

djmtsu 08-13-2015 04:36 PM

Improvement all around! No more solid axle. Vastly superior suspension. Brake parts the are stupid easy to source and upgrade. Bolt pattern unleashes an infinite wheel choice. No need for a 2 piece driveshaft. Rack and Pinion steering. Do I need to go on??

FC Zach 08-13-2015 11:19 PM

This is awesome man, cant wait to see progress! Hell, I can't wait to see it on the road!!
