i am loving this project
|
Started work on the sump as the custom one that come with the motor won't fit.:cuss: I had the flange cut then started working on how much room I have.
I removed the old front engine mount cross member as I need a bit more clearance. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psc1094705.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps47ad6fcd.jpg Then I mocked up the lower half in cardboard. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps0e9c15e6.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...pscf3707b6.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psb328ba42.jpg Next to the old custom sump. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psc260fe14.jpg After that I modelled it up in Inventor. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps610189fd.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps1b4ad7bb.jpg Even welded it! http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psecc52ac2.jpg Should give me a bit over 5 litres capacity. Now I just need get the lower half cut. |
Spent a bit of time in the shed last night an made a tail-shaft loop.
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps2c0c07da.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psff5a045f.jpg I used the factory studs for the old two piece tail-shaft. |
Had a little bit more progress.
I got back the laser cut parts for the sump and tack them together for a trial fit up. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps36e46731.jpg Good clearance on the crossmember. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps48e38da3.jpg But after checking clearance on the oil pickup I knew I had a problem.:banghead: http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps041baca6.jpg This is a 13B turbo pickup. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psb611bc21.jpg Started to design a lower profile pickup. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps10aa57b8.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...psd284beca.jpg The sump will have to be modified. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps1b89008b.jpg And even then I will have to lower the swaybar. Might have a look at some of those anti-dive spacers. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...pse32ee102.jpg |
Made the sump pickup today! :D

Parts for my sump are made ready for welding!
The flange is screwed to a piece of 8mm steel plate to help with distortion, here with the sump pickup in place. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps422051c0.jpg Here with the sump base and pickup cover plates. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps405d4a97.jpg Hopefully organising the welding next week as I don't have an AC TIG to weld alloy. :( |
