Really impressed with how the car handles compared to the old car, it's very predictable and manageable at the limit. Turn-in is very good, with just a dash of oversteer in the really tight corners. I'm sold on NT-05's now :)

Had probably the biggest smile on my face for a long time at the end of the practice :)

what did you change? just tire?

On what? Whether or not I'll make it out there on time

BTW Bill..... what are you up to this Friday/Saturday?

Not sure, I changed so many things that I can't pin it on any one thing.

New car (s4 to s5)
Newer bushings
Power Steering
Brakes
Tires

The old car was a nice handful - which could have been managable if I had power steering, but since I didn't and had the higher ratio rack, I guess I couldn't keep up. It sure has made me a better driver though.

Lol, on the race.

I was going to go to Dave's but I have an order in on some more parts for 8 that I'd like to have before getting back up there. Also helping a friend move his FB to a warmer place for the winter... so much to do, lol.

MaczPayne 12-12-2010 08:13 PM

Car feels and drives very good, just got to work on the bug behind the steering wheel:

Ungh Ungh Ungh!

Going to try out some Collinite's No. 845 Insulator Wax when this rain lets up, I've heard some really good things about them :) Will let you know how it goes!

TitaniumTT 01-05-2011 07:33 AM

Fine looking car Johnson!

I've got a buddy that swears by that stuff. Personally, I'll stick with my 3M glaze and Mothers wax.

His car's a monster! I didn't get a chance to ride in it since I worked when he ran, but damn does that thing scoot! He was playing around with the prop valve so he was smokin' his tires a bit before dialing them in :)

Sweet! I hope to run my set-up close to his. My dyno numbers maybe surprise me :)

MaczPayne 01-07-2011 03:46 PM

Some pictures of the rear caliper modification my friend did to fit his brakes (same as mine):

Here you go Brian!

http://bringthepaynes.googlepages.co...4440Medium.JPG

Remember that the grind marks must run cross-ways on the caliper to prevent the formation of stress concentrations. Corksport's RZ kit instructions will have you grind them the other way; and while I haven't heard of any failing - I don't think anyone wants to be the first to have the calipers split while they're driving :)

Hubcentric spacer, notice the slight machining to get the rotor to fit.

http://bringthepaynes.googlepages.co...4429Medium.JPG
Rotor sits closer than factory, so this area will need to be shaved down.

Hope this helps, Brian!

Nothing much to update:

Picked up a new oil cooler setup - FD + FC oil coolers - an old setup from a friend's racecar. I should also have my Sakebomb HID's in the coming weeks as well.

Started this year paying off loans and whatever I owe so I can purchase a home in 12 to 24 mo's. It's a bitch.

Also getting into desert racing, so money's found a new avenue of escape, lol.

Karate, Cars, Racing - what a drain!

Prodigy 02-09-2011 02:12 AM

I know what you mean about avenues of escape for funds... last year I put my FD rebuild on hold to jump out of an airplane, multiple times... :D

its fun... just hella expensive, even more so to start...

Did the El Toro Pro Solo this past weekend, threw on some brand new AD07's, so I had to break them in using 2 runs :) These babies are nice, can't imagine what the AD08's feel like.

First lap, came through the last sweeper (which also included the finish) a little unsettled...
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...1/IMG_0917.jpg

Didn't place too bad considering everyone else had hoosiers or some kind of race tire :) I had absolutely no chance against Andy McKee's FD lol. My times were consistent so that helped out a good bit

After that, I finally got around to installing my Bi-Xenon's
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...4-12205205.jpg

Going to Spring Valley in Pahrump, NV 5/14, haven't been out on the big track since the accident!

WE3RX7 04-13-2011 09:35 PM

Nice man... I'm jealous you have so many rotards to race with. I'm lucky if one or two show up for our events! I'm surrounded by vettes, STIs and miatas...

MaczPayne 04-14-2011 05:48 PM

There are only about 4-5 rotaries at the events, including a rotary powered sprite :)

FC3S Murray 04-15-2011 05:28 PM

looking great man!! I am gonna start SCAA this year after the LS1 dyno. Any tips or advice before i get there?

josh18_2k 04-15-2011 11:37 PM

if you're talking about autox... seat time, and focusing on the fact that slower is faster.
learning to autox a v8 rx7 is HARD. took me a loong time to dial back the right pedal.

in short, smooth as possible on throttle, and avoid sliding. its fun, but not fast, and is detrimental to driving skillz

MaczPayne 04-17-2011 12:19 AM

Biggest advice I could give is learn! Don't be ashamed if you make mistakes or come out slower than you'd expect. As long as you're willing to learn (ego left at the door!) you'll improve quickly.

Yup. The more you stay planted, the better!

MaczPayne 05-02-2011 03:08 PM

New addition :)

Prodigy 05-02-2011 06:45 PM

Those are matched very well...

Looks good...

Had rubbing issues I assume...?

J.

MaczPayne 05-02-2011 11:26 PM

Rubbing issues under hard cornering, would be fine if all I did was drive the car normally, but what fun is there in that?

josh18_2k 05-03-2011 01:35 PM

do those actually add any clearance? doesnt look like it.. but they do look cool

MaczPayne 05-03-2011 07:27 PM

20m, but not much, it's about as wide as my pull, but with more uptravel clearance

MaczPayne 05-12-2011 01:13 AM

Spring Mountain CW this Saturday:

http://images17.fotki.com/v297/photo...3_1mile-vi.jpg

Got pretty much all the maintenance done on the car, can't wait to thrash her again!

Gregory Casimir 05-12-2011 03:09 PM

damn please get some nice footage on this track! how is the elevation change on this course?

MaczPayne 05-15-2011 01:09 AM

There are slight elevation changes in the track yes, but it's manageable for the most part.

There are 2-3 spots on the track that will test your courage though, almost zero g if you're going fast enough.

It's a very fun track, it's almost like what an autocross would be - supersized!

Videos soon

NICE Johnson.... I have got to get back to Cali with my FC damnitalltohell.... soone than some might expect :suspect:

MaczPayne 05-16-2011 11:03 PM

These AD07's are seriously awesome tires... I had no problems catching up to faster cars in the corners. I can't imagine what the AD08's are like. The big brakes once again performed flawlessly, I was trying to fade them every chance I got, and nothing!

MaczPayne 05-24-2011 12:04 AM

Got my formerly 2-piece lip (thanks cone!) repaired, strengthened, and painted to match:
Finally got around to installing my incognito front tow hook too.

TitaniumTT 05-24-2011 08:01 AM

Pics of incognito tow hook? :suspect:

MaczPayne 05-24-2011 02:29 PM

It's on the left side of the bumper center opening in the picture, hehe.

I'll try to get better ones later :)
