|
Sorry man, you lost me with 'local street drift races.'
|

Yeah.... Me too....
Looks good though DJ... What are the chances of us seeing this girl in April? |

The rear axle is the ONLY major piece of work that needs to be done. Its going to be almost 60 degrees this weekend, so maybe we can get that done. |
Buy a heater and no more excuses

Build problems.... |

I found a 78 cosmo on friday out in the country. He is interested in selling it. It ran when parked and is a really solid car compared to the other cosmos i have had. Its all complete and it looks like the interior needs most the work as its aged.
|
Get that shit and share parts!!
(Seriously) |
Eh we will see. I just got rid of a 77 recently. I want a rx3 or rx2

Also, I think I PM'd you on the other forum about a steering wheel, but you had already sold it :( |
I agree. Yea that steering wheel was out of it. I still have a set of louvers for a cosmo.
|
I've never seen louvers for the Cosmo. I take it they look similar to the ones for RX-3's?
|
Seeing your progress makes me start thinking about working on my old cosmo. sadly I have neglected it for way too long.

Or........hand it over to me :) |
Wait..... MC... you have a Cosmo?!?!??!?
DJ.... what are you doing for the rear end again? |

Another bonus is gearing. The stock is like 3.63. 2wd MPV's have 3.90, and 4wd has 4.10's. It is a couple inches wider on each side than stock. But that is why fender flares were invented.... |

Of course, the MPV axle and FC suspension stuff will add to it, but removing the A/C and many other crappy do-dads will help....a little. |
DJ remember this is the guy with 410 HP 13b in a first gen. EVERYTHING feels heavy to him!
|
My rear axle plan, isn't going to work. That bitch was wayyyyy too wide.
So, going GSL-SE with a 5 lug conversion. Stay tuned, still collecting parts. |
well it is a cruiser car all told.
|

Now the Road Pacer, that is a cruiser.... |
If i recall correctly the 8.8 rear ends are almost a direct bolt in for the cosmos and first gens. A buddy of mine has a 350 in his first gen with a 8.8 and it looks like it fit pretty well.
|
8.8 is a heavy bitch, of course, this MPV axle is heavy as fuck too.
Also, it needs to be cut down on one side to center the pinion. Not going that route at this time. Also remember, this is a 70's Mazda, which means NARROW. Hell, a GSL-SE axle is about 1.5" wider on each side than the Cosmo, and an 8.8 would be another 1" over that. So GSL-SE with 5 lug it is. |
For reference, the MPV axle is just a little wider than an 8.8.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-j...-no/temp_5.jpg It would work great for a widebody FB though. Centered diff, 5 lug, 5 link. |

In the words of Adler..... Flares!
(and in this case high offset wheels) Sucks its so wide. would have been a good axle. |
Quote:
But damn, the flares would have to be about 5-6" It was look like an IMSA car, or bosuku. The axle might come in handy anyway. Been looking at something else for the next project....... Anyone want to buy an S4 FC? Cheap? |
GSL-SE axle acquired.
Cleaning side seal grooves is the devil. |
Still working on her. Slowly however, since I need to be frugal with money until I find a new job.
Engine should be built soon. Carb is rebuilt. Some surface rust and dings are being fixed. I also installed a new steering column bushing. What a huge difference that has made!! The A/C components are almost all out, just need to get into the passenger side under dash and see how the evaporator is connected to the hoses. I would rather not cut the lines going through the firewall, but it is what it is. |
